A tutor should build the student's confidence as a student shouldn't ever feel doubtful about themselves before learning. They should communicate understanding what specific things they're struggling with. Patience is important you can't rush teaching any concept to a student. Holding students accountable is important since a student should also…

Making sure they understand the foundations of the concepts I'm trying to teach them. The "why" is just as important as the "how". I'm a strong communicator, and I excel at breaking things down into small steps. I pay close attention to not skip "obvious" steps to meet people at their…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to foster a love for learning. When a tutor instills a genuine curiosity and passion for acquiring knowledge, it becomes a lifelong gift that goes beyond specific subjects or exams. By nurturing this love for learning, tutors empower their students to become self-motivated, independent…

The most important quality a tutor must having the patience to teach the student as there is a wide variety of students with different capabilities. I believe that a tutor must be able to provide the students with what they need. This means assessing the student's abilities and determining key weaknesses. Since not all students are the same, a successful tutor must be able to decide strategies that are suited for each individual student. I am adaptable and resourceful, so I can adjust myself…

The important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not be the driver of the student's journey, but instead an instructor. To set out a pathway for the student and foster individuality within them. A tutor must develop such a relationship that in the instance the student is to give a biography, they mention their tutor as a vital part of their…

Far too often students fall into the trap of memorisation. They lack the conceptual understanding, thus when given a question that does not perfectly coincide with their rules, they panic. I strongly believe that as a tutor, my goal is to motivate students to really grasp concepts and truly appreciate the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of a rule or…

Tutors must build the confidence of their students - they can't just teach them the content and expect them to be able to do it on their own - its more than that. My daughter is really comfortable with having Grace as her tutor she is a great fit. My daughter is enjoying learning maths now and understanding things a lot better. Grace is patient, clear and breaks down things to make it easier for my daughter to understand. I highly recommend Grace as a tutor.

Inside Horsley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jay worked through collecting like terms and expanding algebraic expressions, using step-by-step examples to reinforce these new skills.

In Year 10, Emily focused on probability, tackling tree diagrams and interpreting fractions within probability scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas reviewed key concepts in Chemistry Module 7 by exploring different types of alcohols and esters, followed by HSC-style practice questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed hesitancy in answering maths questions, asking "is this a trick question?" and missing opportunities to build confidence. This uncertainty led to checking answers less often, with small errors slipping through.

In Year 8 science, one learner's notes were spread across multiple books—making it hard to review and consolidate key ideas efficiently.

For a Year 7 student, skipping working out in algebra meant that sign errors went unnoticed; as noted, "failed to recognise where mistakes went wrong due to the lack of working out." Time was then lost retracing steps instead of moving forward confidently.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Horsley Park noticed a big change with one Year 11 student who, after struggling to ask for help before, now regularly asks questions when stuck and even explains her own thought process aloud—something she hadn't done in earlier sessions.

A Year 9 boy recently began attempting tricky probability homework on his own before asking for guidance, showing real initiative instead of waiting for answers.

In Year 5, a student who was previously hesitant with multiplication has started tackling new problems independently and finished all assigned questions early this week without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marion Catholic Primary School.
