Individuality. As I have spent time as a basketball coach and a chemistry tutor. In this time I have learnt how different people intake knowledge and how different people need support. After graduation I started studying a Bachelor of Nursing in 2020. During that year, I realized this was not what I wanted to do. I realized I had a real passion…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure they feel supported and allow them to take the lead. Students need to have the ability to decide what to study in tutoring classes and be able to study with the tutor after sessions independently. I can create a comfortable and supportive environment for students as I am patient…

As a tutor, I believe the most vital role I can play for a student is to serve as a reliable guide on their learning journey. It's about being present to help the student navigate challenges and celebrate their successes. I perceive myself as a partner dedicated to the student's growth and understanding. I consider it of utmost importance to…

I personally believe that the most important thing is being reliable and consistently there for a student. If they know that I will be there week in week out for them they can rely on me whenever things do get hard at school, knowing I am there to help them. I am extremely patient with people when I am explaining stuff. If at first they don’t…

Increase their confidence, a student who has bad grades or feels left behind often underperforms due to this sole reason. After increasing their confidence by helping them truly understand a concept or topic, they feel more confident and adept in class. I think I am very patient, from my experience peer tutoring I am very calm and supportive, even…

I think the purpose of a tutor is to complement and supplement the school classroom learning to ensure that the student has a good understanding of the subject's content, but ultimately a good tutor will develop a student's independent learning ability, and only fill in gaps in a student's knowledge when required. A tutor should guide a student…

I tutor on the principle that any student requires three things above all else when learning; 1. Knowledge that is reliable and understandable. 2. Patience in self and most importantly from myself. 3. Support from all parties involved so they're able to progress when learning and feel comfortable in the teaching space. This allows me to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is tailor their lessons to the student's learning styles. For example, while a tutor may prefer to teach visually, a student may learn best by verbal explanations, so it is important for a tutor to put the needs of the student before their own and show adaptability in doing so. Additionally, a…

Being able to explain concepts well to a student is arguably the most important thing. The best tutors are those who can explain and teach challenging ideas with relative ease in a short period of time because they have such good interpersonal skills. I believe my greatest strength is personal interaction with the student, and the ability to…

I'm convinced learning is an ongoing process and as a tutor, I hope to contribute the community by making a difference in the lives of young people. Imparting an enjoyment of learning something new. I am only with the student for a short time compared to their time in school, so increasing intrinsic motivation to learn has a much greater effect in the long run, as well as decreasing the chance of burnout due to stress in the higher grades. To recognise the student's limits, and to help them reach beyond them. A tutor should set realistic goals for students to help them stay motivated and to make progress in their learning, however, they should also encourage students to achieve higher through effective communication and tutoring support. Inside KenmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Kiri began breaking down the Biology syllabus and completed a baseline quiz on genetics and evolution to assess understanding.

In Year 8, simultaneous equations were tackled using both substitution and elimination methods, with extra support for inequalities from earlier in the year.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 session focused on decimal operations—including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—plus solving multi-step word problems for real-world practice.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student left her notebook at school and still needed to begin organising maths notes separately for home study; as the tutor observed, "writing in random places for each one" made revision less effective.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with structuring and planning a report—difficulty meeting deadlines meant feedback could not be applied before submission.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner did not complete assigned homework, impacting their readiness for new topics.

In a senior maths session, over-reliance on calculators led to errors like using the wrong formula without back-checking, which slowed progress during independent practice.

Recent Achievements

A Kenmore tutor recently noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who started working through stoichiometry problems independently after initially needing each step explained—by the fourth question, she worked out the solution solo.

Another high schooler in Year 10, who previously hesitated to ask for help, now speaks up when stuck and only needs minimal explanation before finishing problems on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled with long division picked it up quickly this week and managed subtraction and division steps smoothly without extra prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kenmore Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kenmore State School.
