The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them the mindset required to set them up for success. This includes teaching them the skills and the knowledge to learn content and to solve problems, especially independently. This also includes motivating them and giving them a growth related mindset. My strengths as a tutor are that…

A tutor should be well-prepared in ensuring students completely comprehend subject that is being taught. A tutor should be prepared to answer all sorts of question asked by the students. An excellent tutor should be genuinely interested in the students understanding. He/she should not be afraid to acknowledge anything they do not know. Instead,…

I try my best to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Confidence is key to overcoming challenges and taking ownership of learning, and it requires patience and understanding from the tutor. It's always important to understand and relate to the student, may it be sports,…

A tutor can give a student the confidence to work independantly. Teach students on improving their strengths and minize their weakness. Enable them to quickly understand and solve problems with strong basic knowledge. A tutor can help a student to set high expectations and work towards them, making their stuggle easier. I believe higher studies…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is not only passing on the knowledge to the student but to also activate the student’s desire to learn by themselves. This includes the desire to search for the answer and to overcome the problems. We are not spoon feeding the student the information. There is an old saying “Give a child a…

The most valuable thing that a tutor can do for a student is to clarify the ideas, as well as assist the student in organising their study time and provide them with the appropriate direction. Because I have such a naturally helpful disposition, I make it a point to provide assistance to the greatest extent that I am able. This is one of my…

I believe that a tutor should be patient and focus on the things that students are struggling with. I also believe that practice makes perfect! Instead of memorisations that can be mundane for a student, I believe that it is a tutor's job to make a student's work exciting, ensuring that they are always curious and willing to learn. It is also very…

I believe in teaching the students skills more than information. The saying goes, if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime, which is very close to my heart. I want my students to understand the problem and critically think about solutions rather than trying to copy-paste from memory.…

Another vital role is to build confidence in a student by doing practice questions and papers. -I am an electrical engineering student…

Building the trust between the tutor and the student is what I believe it is most important. I felt that if I didn't build the trust with my students, then no matter how much I try, they will not improve. Therefore, building trust - looking confident and knowing what I am doing. My strength is making sure the students understand the concepts.…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student to help them learn is to make the subject/topic approachable. School can be challenging, especially when much of the learning comes from textbooks, lectures, and independent reading. Adapting to the student's learning style/preference (if the student is a visual learner, create pictures)/ If the student prefers a repetition of similar problem, create more problems for the students). -I believe it is a tutor's duty to make sure the student understands the concept thoroughly and precisely as possible,. -A tutor can always jump to the basics of a particular concept if it is not clear for the student. Inside KensingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia worked on mean, median and mode calculations as well as interpreting graphs.

In Year 10, Ethan practised non-right angled trigonometry using the sine rule and cosine rule.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Liam focused on basic trigonometry and explored normal distribution, including understanding its key properties and uses.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student often worked out maths in their head instead of writing steps, which made it harder to spot where misunderstandings with algebra or negative signs occurred—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors.

In Year 11 Physics, a student froze when unsure how to start a question and needed guidance breaking down what was being asked; missing definitions slowed progress.

A senior Chemistry student relied heavily on checking notes for formulas rather than recalling them independently, leading to lost time during problem-solving.

Nerves in impromptu speeches (Year 10 English) led to rushed delivery and forgotten structure.

Recent Achievements

One Kensington tutor noted a high school student who previously hesitated to speak up now talks through his problem-solving process out loud and actively asks questions when stuck, rather than staying quiet.

Another secondary student showed new independence by checking over each maths problem and explaining their reasoning step-by-step—something he'd avoided before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner, after struggling with fractions last term, has started converting mixed numbers independently and can now solve most ratio problems solo.

Last week, one completed all ten practice questions without needing any hints from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coogee Boys' Preparatory School.
