A good tutor can instill confidence, curiosity and independence in their student, so that they will want to learn and improve even when studying on their own. A good tutor also provides the necessary resources for their student, so that they are able to work on their weaknesses in their own time. A good tutor helps to improve on the student's…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student's confidence, adapt to their individual learning style, and encourage independent thinking. Itis not just about helping them get the right answer, but helping them understand how to get there on their own. One of my key strengths is my adaptability. This helps me tailor…

Personally, I believe that students come to tutors for a reason: commitment. Even though I am not an official school teacher, I try to make sure that students walk out of the tutoring session with a reasonable understanding of a particular topic, despite the fact that they might have learned about it at school already. I think it is necessary that…

I think the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach him different things while motivating the student and making sure he/she/they understand the essence of the teaching so that they can apply it in daily life rather than asking them to memorize different things. This way the students not only get good grades but also store whatever…

Amidst the competitive pressure of institutions on this generation's children, one of the vital things a tutor can do for a fellow student is to provide a safe space for them to be able to express themselves, i.e allowing them to ask questions and understand the weaknesses of their students. Inside Kings ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ben tackled ratios and rates of change using real-life examples, while Year 9 student Maya focused on calculating measures of central tendency and exploring variance and distribution in data sets.

For Year 6, Olivia practiced interpreting images to answer inferential questions and read short texts to build her skills in drawing conclusions from written clues, also solving maths word problems involving addition and subtraction.

Recent Challenges

Distraction and loss of focus were key challenges in both primary and high school lessons.

For example, as a tutor noted, "Olly gets distracted and off topic very easily," which led to needing direct answers instead of practicing inferencing in Year 5 reading and maths.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting to write units or skipping written working created confusion during problem-solving with rates of change.

Several students did not consistently complete or remember homework for revision—one high schooler "sometimes has difficulty remembering the concepts taught previously," especially when workings weren't recorded, resulting in repeated gaps during algebra practice.

Recent Achievements

One Kings Park tutor recently saw a Year 11 student move from confusion to confidence with powers and square roots—after reviewing her earlier questions, she worked through new problems independently without needing hints.

In another high school session, Jurgen had previously been making "silly mistakes" in algebra, but after focusing on study strategies and self-checking, he began identifying errors himself before the tutor pointed them out.

Meanwhile, Olly (Year 3) surprised his tutor by looking up unfamiliar word definitions during reading time instead of waiting for help, showing real initiative that hadn't been there before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosalie Primary School.
