I am able to adapt to different learning styles, teaching the students in the manner that appears best to them. I am good at listening to the students to fully…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to help students build genuine understanding rather than just memorising methods, so they can apply concepts independently. It’s also important to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment that builds confidence and encourages questions. Over time, a tutor should foster independence while…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient and understanding. Forcing an expectation can create insecurity, which can further decrease a students confidence, and hence academic ability. A friendly, positive attitude will create the most growth, and provide students with the strive to improve and upskill their academic abilities I think…

I think encouraging the student to learn and practice is important. Also, explaining the subject in a simple way to understand is another important thing a tutor can do for a student. I think my strengths as a tutor are: - ability to explain the difficult subjects in different ways - communication and social skills - tolerance and…

Teach them skills to master the subject. Teach them life lessons as well - eg resilience. Teach them different ways to look at things. Be a friend/listening ear when they need. Patient and caring. I believe that caring about my student's overall wellbeing is just as important as their grades. Resilience, not all methods of teaching will work…

I feel sometimes the whole syllabus or some questions might look overwhelming at first for a student so often they need guidance to get started. Breaking down the syllabus or even a problem in smaller parts has often helped them. I think preparing them on how to face a question is one of the most important things a tutor should do for a student.…

I think the most important things a tutor should do for a student is to encourage the student to do better rather than to aim for perfect grades. Every improvement, regardless of the extent, is an improvement and it should be appreciated. A tutor should also prepare for the lessons before hand and have a lesson goal/outline to keep on track. 1. Be patient to students. Sometimes tutor need to explain a concept or questions multiple times to students until they understand it. So patience is very important. 2. Tutor should motivate students to exercise. Exercise is very important for students. It can help students know how to use the concept. 3. Tutor can help student build a good way…

Even though I have no experience in the field as of yet I think themost important thing a tutor can do for their students is give them time and space to openly ask their questions and clarify any doubts. So being open for questions and allocating time for his/her students is a key aspect of teaching in any level. Understanding the mindset of…

Inside Kings ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ben tackled ratios and rates of change using real-life examples, while Year 9 student Maya focused on calculating measures of central tendency and exploring variance and distribution in data sets.

For Year 6, Olivia practiced interpreting images to answer inferential questions and read short texts to build her skills in drawing conclusions from written clues, also solving maths word problems involving addition and subtraction.

Recent Challenges

Distraction and loss of focus were key challenges in both primary and high school lessons.

For example, as a tutor noted, "Olly gets distracted and off topic very easily," which led to needing direct answers instead of practicing inferencing in Year 5 reading and maths.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting to write units or skipping written working created confusion during problem-solving with rates of change.

Several students did not consistently complete or remember homework for revision—one high schooler "sometimes has difficulty remembering the concepts taught previously," especially when workings weren't recorded, resulting in repeated gaps during algebra practice.

Recent Achievements

One Kings Park tutor recently saw a Year 11 student move from confusion to confidence with powers and square roots—after reviewing her earlier questions, she worked through new problems independently without needing hints.

In another high school session, Jurgen had previously been making "silly mistakes" in algebra, but after focusing on study strategies and self-checking, he began identifying errors himself before the tutor pointed them out.

Meanwhile, Olly (Year 3) surprised his tutor by looking up unfamiliar word definitions during reading time instead of waiting for help, showing real initiative that hadn't been there before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosalie Primary School.
