I think the most important thing is that students are able to recall information because they actually understand what they are being taught and not memorizing concepts just for the sake of it. By doing this, they will automatically improve and maintain good grades. I think my strength is being a student where I can understand the struggles that…

A tutor should be someone who doesn't just blabber information, but a person who ensures they deliver knowledge in a way a student can comprehend easily! But most importantly, the tutor should always make sure the student has understood the concept, always! Being able to adjust your teaching services to cater all types of students, with different…

I aim to set up a relaxed environment with the students so that students feel comfortable and focused working on subjects. Understanding the level the student is at, so that they are able to improve their skills at a suitable pace is essential. Next, providing worksheets, exams and textbooks so that they can continue improving by themselves,…

The most important thing I believe a chemistry tutor can do for a students is to instill self-confidence in the student because a student that is confident will be more resilient to adversity and be more likely to solve problems by themselves. My strengths would be that I have gone through the Australian school system and have encountered similar…

To improve a student’s level of knowledge. To help him when there is a misconception, or failure to conceptualize. To teach him methodologies and skills of study. For instance, what to put in an answer, and what to leave out, which is a common problem for most people. My depth of knowledge of a master degree in mech. Eng. I taught mechanical…

There a many key things that I believe a chemistry tutor can do to create a positive impact on their students. One of them I believe is for the tutor to be willing to share their knowledge in any area that the student is struggling with or wants some guidance in. I believe this is crucial as it is one of the main advantages of having a tutor in…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can offer his student is the gift of knowledge. My excellent ability to make sure my student understands the content instead of rote memorizing is the key to success. I will encourage my students to not just accept the given answers but question them. This skill is the key to extensive thinking which is…

I find it important for students to know and feel that their individual needs are heard, understood and attended to. It would be most important to follow through all plans, tailored to their needs, with actions that allow the students to realise their progress. By also validating their strengths and identifying their self-limiting beliefs, I…

I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. High school can be a really stressful period for students, not only in the immense pressure that students are under but also with the dramatic shifts…

Giving confidence to the student is the most important thing. If the student is not confident in their ability to do the task, then they will believe that they can not and will not try. Understanding the frustrations that the student can have because they don't understand something, staying calm and patiently taking the student through the problem…

I strongly feel as if education is the most important tool for any person, especially in today's world. Therefore to be able to pass on that knowledge is phenomenal. I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor should do is understand the learning pattern and style of the student. Every student learns differently, simply using one method is not enough. As I try to see, I try to understand how different students learn and understand different content. Through the process, i try to find what is the most…

I believe that there is no easy way in tutoring, the same as there is no easy way to get the answer. Whenever they are stuck it is our job to guide them through and companying them along. Whenever there are difficult times, give out the answers is never the way to solve the problem. I'm very patient when teaching my students, I wouldn't mind…

Inside KnoxfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Paige worked on building speed and accuracy with double-digit addition and subtraction, as well as practising mental maths strategies for complementary numbers to ten.

Year 11 student Lily focused on balancing thermochemical equations in Chemistry and explored the production process and environmental impact of various fuels.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Daniel tackled problems involving definite integrals—such as estimating area under curves—and reviewed differentiation techniques using chain rule applications in preparation for VCE exams.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working ahead in VCE Maths Methods left some school assignment problems incomplete, which meant that gaps lingered and couldn't be addressed until the next session.

In senior Chemistry, one student often delayed sending lab reports to the tutor before class—"If Sarah can send me the report a day earlier, we'll save time for feedback"—resulting in less time to tackle misconceptions or extend her analysis.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student's tendency to rely on hands or number lines during subtraction led to hesitation when faced with numbers above 20; this slowed mental calculation and caused uncertainty when new combinations appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Knoxfield tutor noticed a big shift with Sarah in Year 12 Chemistry—she's now coming to sessions ready with her own questions and even prepares materials ahead of time, showing far more initiative than before.

Another high school student recently started pinpointing and correcting her own homework mistakes during lessons, something she hadn't done independently until now.

In a primary session, a younger learner who previously hesitated with vertical addition is now breezing through problems quickly and rarely makes errors.

Last week, Sarah finished her practical report without needing any extra support from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rowville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carrington Primary School.
