Bring them self-confidence. Because as a former student, this is the most important thing I got from my tutor. Students who take tuition often do so because they lack confidence in their grades, or even receive pressure from others such as parents, and so can become agitated or even bored with their studies, and thus engage in self-denial. If you…

Having a heart fully devoted to the benefit of the student is vital. Have faith in both yourself and the students, believing that they can do it. Be resourceful and able to represent, teach and tutor in different ways. Be open-minded to listen to the students for feedback. True learning happens when students build the tools to think for themselves. In my experience, the most vital role of a tutor is fostering self-efficacy through precise diagnostics and a supportive environment. Rather than just assisting with immediate coursework, I look past surface errors to pinpoint root learning gaps and adapt materials to how…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create a safe and encouraging environment where a student feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence over time. I truly believe that is how you're able to learn. As my ex-manager used to say, "there's no such thing as a stupid question" and that really resonated…

As a teacher, we need to know which part is the weak point for the students, also treat them as your own kids with patient . To teach them as why we need to learn this topic, not teach them like it is for an exam, and then for higher grader, we need to learn. I am really friendly to all students, treat them as my friend, but not joking all the…

To company the students and encourage them to be calm, brave, diligent and curious. A tutor should be there when his or her student needs help or company. Inside Linley PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Georgia reviewed her recent NAPLAN paper to identify and address challenging question types, while Year 8 student Ethan worked through linear equations and interpreting graphs by constructing number sets from worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby focused on algebraic manipulation—multiplying and dividing terms—and practiced simplifying complex expressions to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student forgot to bring required test materials and relied heavily on a calculator, missing out on vital non-calculator skills—"she needs to work on being able to do calculations without a calculator."

In Year 10 algebra, a reluctance to put logic on paper meant errors went unnoticed until feedback was given.

For a Year 8 student, disorganized working when breaking down composite numbers made factorization tasks harder than necessary.

Meanwhile, in primary years, skipping written steps during division led one student to make mistakes that "could have been avoided if workings were shown clearly."

Recent Achievements

One Linley Point tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to get lost in algebra now confidently tackles simultaneous equations, even switching between substitution and elimination methods without prompting.

In Year 11, another student who'd previously rushed through answers is now carefully laying out solutions step by step, catching her own errors—especially with trigonometry questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner has shifted from guessing at worded division problems to reading them independently and explaining her reasoning before working out the answer. Last session, she solved three tricky word problems on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladesville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hunters Hill High School.
