I think patience is the most important skill a physics tutor can have. Some students don't understand a concept right away, I had to have a concept explained to me multiple times before and if the tutor was patient I was not scared to ask. I think as I have been tutored before I knew what worked for me and what didn't so I could apply those ideas.…

I believe that a physics tutor should be extremely cautious in what they say; can everything be supported with a logical statement? Because the steps the tutors take to construct the answer are how the students learn from them, a tutor must prepare well and be confident and knowledgeable of what they are giving to the students. It's not about…

The Important thing is to give students a sense of confidence in their ability. This will require the tutor to integrate complex ideas into simple, straightforward concepts. Once the student realizes their capability, they can endure failures, learn from mistakes and try again. My strength as a tutor is definitely my close and friendly…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is teach them how to approach learning in a way that is self sufficient. Understanding content is important for the time, but ultimately, a tutor should leave the student with the skills to know how to understand content when the tutor is no longer there. I am patient, persistent and…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do is to be supportive. Even the students struggling the most always have something they're doing well. The tutors job is to highlight that and develop skills to transfer those proficiencies to other areas of the subject. Furthermore the tutor must be patient. A student is there because they need help…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is to ask them for constant feedback/questions. Some students are hesitant to ask questions when they are confused, which can easily lead to them not understanding content. Hence, it is important as a tutor to actively make sure that your student actually understands what you are…

Patience is vital for students of all ages and skill-levels. The best thing a physics tutor can do for a student is be patient with them in order to accommodate their strengths alongside their weaknesses. Simply 'teaching' is not enough for a student given their tutor lacks patience for them. With many years as an instructor under my belt, my…

As stated above it is important for a physics tutor to be patient and understanding of others. This would allow for a tutor to be adaptive in their teaching, altering the method of teaching content in order to assist a student's understanding. It is also important for a tutor to provide a comfortable learning environment and supply consistent…

Tutors can provide a one-on-one situation where they're able to realise the students weaknesses and target those areas. They can also be someone else for the students to ask questions where they may be too shy or unable to during a large classroom environment. Tutoring can also help reinforce content that students learnt that day or week. I am a…

Inside Lucas HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Madison completed revision on Critical Path Analysis and Bivariate Data, tackling a mix of past exam questions and personal weak spots.

In Year 11, James focused on mastering Normal Distribution through targeted practice problems and began exploring Network Concepts to consolidate understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Mia worked through positive and negative integers using real-world examples, then practiced applying BIDMAS rules to multi-step equations for accuracy.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student in Chemistry was hesitant to start homework or practice questions without being prompted, making it harder to pinpoint which concepts truly needed extra support—"she waits for me to suggest what to try."

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student struggled to sustain her ideas in English written responses, especially when reading too quickly and missing crucial details in short answer tasks.

In Mathematics, a Year 8 student repeatedly avoided writing out working for algebra problems, leading to sign errors that slowed progress and forced frequent backtracking during the session.

Recent Achievements

A Lucas Heights tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after struggling with previous exam mistakes, is now clearly recognising where she went wrong and confidently explaining how to fix those errors.

Another high schooler began asking for practice questions on new chemistry topics—something she hesitated to do before—and now tackles unfamiliar problems without waiting for prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was once reluctant to ask for help has started pinpointing the exact steps in maths that confuse him and openly requests clarification, then attempts similar problems independently right away.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Engadine Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Engadine West Public School.
