The ability to understand the student's likes and dislikes, this allows the tutor to change his/her teaching style to match the student's path of understanding and through this the student is more likely to learn and benefit from the lesson. This is crucial in the student's journey and one of the main characteristics that a tutor should have. My…

As a tutor I believe, anything that a student brings up during the session regarding their studies which they are finding hard to understand in school. a tutor should be able to help them no matter what as they’re the second option to go and ask help to after they’re teachers Listening to what children are trying to say. Figuring out what is…

Providing support and the need for help to the students whenever they need. Making sure they learn what they need to and be able to apply those learning skills to later subjects. It is good if you are able to make them learn what they are studying at the moment, but teaching them good study habits will help them much more later on as well. I am direct. I consider balance the most important thing a tutor can do for their student. Balance has to be in so many aspects, such as balance in time management - to avoid wasting any time given in the short tutoring period in solving questions a student can take home for homework or going through content they are already accustomed to and balance in taking…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ensure that the student is getting work done even when you are not there. This isnt necessarily homework but rather, making sure the student is motivated and has goals established at least mentally. Most students have not yet figured out what exactly they want to do but its important to…

Encouraging a growth mindset is therefore essential, helping students develop confidence in their abilities so they feel empowered to tackle challenges on their own. Inside MulgraveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Charlize worked on understanding fractions by shading pie charts to represent different denominators and comparing them, while also practicing equivalent fractions.

Year 10 student Justine focused on circle geometry questions, including finding angles and segment lengths, as part of her exam preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student explored differential equations through calculus applications like integration and differentiation, using textbook examples to reinforce problem-solving skills.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students did not complete or submit homework on time, which led to forgotten concepts—such as in Year 11 Mathematical Methods, where missing weekly exercises meant one student "forgot some concepts from the Chinese Postman problem and Kruskal's algorithm."

In another case, a Year 10 student tackling algebra struggled to show working clearly: "he often finds himself struggling to show his working out," making it hard to identify errors and build confidence.

For Year 12 Specialist Maths, incomplete revision of earlier homework resulted in repeated mistakes on steady state probability questions.

When these process gaps occurred, lesson time was spent re-explaining basics rather than advancing into new material.

Recent Achievements

One Mulgrave tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who now tells the tutor when she's confused, rather than sitting quietly—she even tackled some independent work on her own for the first time.

Another high schooler recently remembered and applied distributive law to solve algebraic equations, something he struggled with just last week; by session's end, he worked through problems with little prompting.

In primary, a younger student used to forget her multiplication tables after practice, but now checks back through previous questions independently when stuck on long division and can explain why matching denominators matters.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hawkesbury Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Windsor High School.
