We have all had the experience of a "bad teacher" and we know it's not pleasant. Often the teacher is simply a bad match for that particular student rather than being a "bad teacher" in general but in either case the student has a serious problem. This is why many parents contact us for a private tutor - their child just can't "get it" when their teacher is teaching. It's incredible how one explanation results in more confusion whereas another results in that...

It's incredible how one explanation results in more confusion whereas another results in that "aha" feeling we all love so much! It is really a matter of getting the "right" tutor and not the "best" one. We see this every day in our work. A tutor might have hundreds of hours of experience and might have received dozens of testimonials from students, however, even such a tutor doesn't click with all students. Every tutor gets bad feedback sometimes. It's all about getting the right fit and this is what we do!
We will organise a 1-on-1 maths tutor in Newtown to come to your home at a time of your choosing. They will be a local Newtown maths tutor so scheduling lessons will be easy. Also, no booking fees, no minimum terms, no cancellation costs, no nonsense! And here's the best thing: your first lesson is a trial. So if you feel that the tutor wasn't a good fit, we'll organise someone else. It's our Good Fit Guarantee.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Oscar has begun using the talking out loud technique and putting pen to paper. He is still lacking in confidence and feels unmotivated when he gets a question wrong. He is beginning to understand the material better but tends to have lazy thinking at times. He has also begun to structure his solutions more neatly. However, when he is uncertain he tends to scribble answers down
Asha is generally engaged and focused in his work. I think it would be beneficial for him to spend a little bit more time on maths questions every week, completing extra questions from the current chapter. (no more than 30 mins). It is clear that Asha cares about his work, and understands its importance, however needs to understand that it is ok to be wrong, and is part of his development.
Rearrangement of algebraic functions still seems to be an issue at this point but am confident that with continuous practice this can be resolved. Negative and positive numbers are still a common point of confusion but again, this with time can be overcome

We were very impressed with Jane, hopefully Saturdays are locked in each week to continue with tutoring.
Riley is extremely happy with Andre. My son tells me "this guy's great ! Every time I call him because I have a question, he answers !" So thank you.
Sam Timbrell has worked out very well for Gabby RE Math Tutoring so far. He is patient, explains things well, and he makes certain Gabby is not confused before moving on to the next issue. He is on time, courteous and has provided extra work and work sheets as needed and appropriate.
