Verbal and written language skills are crucial in the information age. Comprehending texts, textual analysis, structuring written reports, refining creative processes and applying a structure to them, articulating thoughts concisely ... these skills are going to be useful in just about any career path. The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
This month Tayla and I continued with Multiplication and Division, with a focus on times tables, mental strategies, and finishing with algorithms. Tayla showed mostly solid focus this month and it was really great to see an increased interest in seeking understanding of the concepts (e.g. why the algorithm multiplication method works) , rather than simply relying on rule dependence.
She is continuosly putting effort into her lessons and homework and asks for more homework! Now that she practices, she is able to remember those functions (subtraction, multiplication etc) without having to be continuosly reminded every lesson.
It would be a stretch to call it a gap in their knowledge however it would be advisable to revise the times tables. Particularly the 7s, 8s, 12s as these are more difficult numbers. A big problem we have identified and will be tackling this year are the iMath questions.

At this stage we are very happy. Nick likes Tharaka and his overall attitude to maths has changed. He is quite happy to give things a go. His confidence is building.
Suparna is lovely and very patient and Sitota is very happy with her. I think it will take a good few months before we see any progress with Sitota considering her learning difficulties. All positive and we are moving forward though
Mo is a lovely girl and Ashleigh seems to be benefitting a great deal from her tutoring sessions with her. Ashleigh is fairly motivated and I'm sure by the time exams come around there will be a noticeable difference in her capabilities. Mo and Ashleigh interact quite well and Ashleigh is much more confident about what she is doing after her sessions. All in all, at this stage we couldn't be happier with the way things are going.
