Some of the most important things are to help build confidence in your student - it can often be challenging to do well if you don't have that confidence. A tutor can also provide useful advice and feedback as to the flaws of a student in a particular subject to help them work on it. A tutor also gives an additional and refreshing insight into a…

Instead of teaching in a standard linear fashion, I prefer to let the pupil choose what they would like to practice and I will explain the concept while showing how the idea can be applied and adjusted. I also believe worded problems are a strong point that should be focused on as they test the knowledge of the student and how the student can…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to always have faith in the student despite witnessing constant failures and lack of improvement. Is to provide support, as I student I know it gets hard to understand what teachers are trying to say. I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

Just being a support for the student in question. Actually engage and interact with the student to find where, and more importantly why they're struggling or need help. Local Reviews

Very happy with our tutor, Deepali knows exactly how to make sure my son is listening in class and is doing his best work at home and in school. My son listens and does the required work, which made me very surprised and happy. Deepali has successfully achieved to handle my son in a very well mannered way that allows him to understand the work and do it all by himself afterwards. My son was struggling with his Maths and English but now he is doing really well and I've seen him getting higher marks at school which I'm very very delighted about. I would recommend Deepali as a wonderful tutor that will assist your child in their studies and you will see instant results.

Inside PrestonsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Aryan worked on addition and subtraction of three- and four-digit numbers with carrying, as well as multiplication by a single digit and telling time to the hour.

For Year 8, Zain focused on expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions with pronumerals, along with finding the highest common factor (HCF) using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Riya practised solving worded problems involving differentiation and time rates, also exploring introductory matrices through guided problem sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, over-reliance on calculators led to frequent input errors—"plugging in the wrong sign kept giving unexpected answers," as one tutor observed during logarithm and exponent tasks.

A Year 8 student hesitated when starting worded problems, unsure which rules or operations to apply; this slowed progress and left working incomplete.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner struggled with structuring written solutions for decimal questions, making it difficult to track their own reasoning.

In each case, confusion around process—not content—meant more time spent retracing steps than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Prestons noticed a big shift with one Year 10 student who, after previously staying quiet during sessions, now regularly asks questions and requests changes to how concepts are explained—something she'd never done before.

Another high schooler has started applying feedback on study strategies right away instead of waiting for reminders, showing more initiative during revision.

In a recent session with a younger student, the tutor saw her independently tackle tricky division problems that she used to skip over, even choosing to slow down and check her work rather than rushing ahead.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Casula Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Amity College, Prestons.
