- Inspire a sense of purpose and ambition in students: It is a sense of purpose that gives the student passion and motivation to study well, hence defining their academic success. A purposeful, ambitious student is a student who is willing to go above and beyond, to think outside of the box in their educational journey. With a purpose, the student…

Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. But things that a crafty and caring tutor would do is to support, understand, and talk, in one word, be there for the student. Being a friend and caring about every student, realising their talent and the ways they…

The most important aspect in my opinion is carefully listening to the student's struggles to carefully cater for their actual requirements. Also, recognising the best ways in which they gain and retain knowledge is important. My friendly personality and careful listening abilities are my key strengths when teaching another person. Additionally,…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to understand their needs, create a custom study plan, and keep them motivated. It's essential to know what each student is good at and what they find challenging. By making a unique study plan that moves at a pace that's right for them, students can learn better without feeling…

I believe that the most important thing about a tutor is their ability to motivate and encourage a student in their learning journey. A tutor must be able to show enthusiasm and positivity towards learning, and rather than using rote learning techniques, to engage the student so that they can demonstrate longevity in their education. It is…

Being there for a student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Whilst tutors are there to help guide a student's learning progress, they should also present themselves as a supportive friend. The relationship between a student and tutor is important and aspects like giving general advice, and helping students during…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are make learning feel less stressful, build a student’s confidence, and adapt to their needs. It’s not just about explaining concepts, it’s about creating a space where they feel comfortable asking questions without fear of judgment. Everyone learns differently, so I try to adjust my…

A tutor typically works 1-on-1, therefor it's important to treat each student as an individual and figure out what style of learning works best for them. A tutor should collaborate with the student to help them reach academic heights that they would not be able to with regular schooling alone. I am positive, encouraging, but also thorough. I am…

Resilience after drawbacks. The most important thing is ensuring you build confidence in a students understanding of the subject as a whole as it is through this that a student would be able to face any questions that may be posed to them and have confidence within themselves that they are able to understand the topics given throughout their learning. Inside RowvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Bridget revised networks and graphs as well as matrices ahead of her SAC, focusing on interpreting network diagrams and matrix operations.

In Year 10, Cailin tackled challenging homework questions involving linear equations and quadratics, working through problem areas from previous assignments for clarity.

For Year 11, Alex reviewed financial mathematics topics like simple and compound interest using real-life scenarios, then practised solving related application problems to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In order to retain the content, she has to complete the assigned questions. Missing this step meant concepts in matrices and algebra slipped between sessions for the Year 10 student.

In Year 12 Chemistry, difficulty organizing formulas and recalling theory slowed progress on calculation-based tasks; a tutor observed that more work needs to be done to solve for x during problem-solving.

For a Year 7 student, not writing out notes during lessons led to distraction and gaps in understanding application questions.

Forgotten homework or partial revision made consolidating new skills harder each week.

Recent Achievements

One Rowville tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to indices: after struggling to identify which formula to use, she now spots the right method herself and works through examples without hesitation.

In another session with a Year 12 student, the tutor saw genuine progress as Bridget finished most of her SAC preparation on matrices and networks; this time, she didn't just recall formulas but explained why each step mattered.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously guessed answers during addition practice has started asking for help whenever unsure—last week, she completed all her grouping number questions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rowville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rowville Primary School.
