One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is offer an environment where they can comfortably learn and raise any concerns or questions they might have. This comes from building a good relationship with the student, which often not many tutors do, making the student's learning ineffective. Offering an organised and well thought…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to help them understand concepts clearly, build their confidence, and create a supportive learning environment. It’s not just about giving answers, but explaining things in a way that makes sense to the student and adapting to how they learn best. Patience is really important,…

I reckon the most important thing is to understand a student’s weakness, where they mess up or the concepts they are uncomfortable with. Through such understanding, the tutor can make personalised practice/tutoring that can help the student reach their goals. I am really patient and able to explain concepts to students in a way they can…

A tutor must possess the skills of raising the subject interest of a student. He must grow a problem solving mindset inside the student and prepare him to be up for challenges. I demonstrate using various examples. I explain using audio visuals and multimedia. As a tutor, I am patient and clear the concepts of the students…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with the self-confidence that they're able to achieve their goals. Having that self-confidence makes students much more willing to study and work hard because they know that the goals they have set are actually achievable and aren't an insurmountable task.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to have faith and empathy for the one they are teaching. This is because only through empathy can they identify what the student needs to improve on. Through faith, the student will have the courage to learn and strive for consistency and a harmonious relationship between teacher and…

I believe that the most important thing about a tutor is their ability to motivate and encourage a student in their learning journey. A tutor must be able to show enthusiasm and positivity towards learning, and rather than using rote learning techniques, to engage the student so that they can demonstrate longevity in their education. It is…

A crucial aspect a tutor can provide for a student would be shaping a student's inner monologue. Many students who may need tutoring aren't always lacking in knowledge, but rather lacking in confidence, thus having a tutor to reassure and encourage them to develop upon their self-belief. Furthermore, another important aspect would be providing…

To be an effective tutor, creating a positive learning environment and building connection with the student is crucial. Tutors should be adaptable and tailor their approach to the student's learning style. Constructive feedback is necessary to help students stay motivated and progress toward their goals. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making sure they have enough confidence and belief in themselves to replicate the work you do together, by themselves. This in the end is the most beneficial skill when it comes to school, because self doubt holds back so many students. Being able to break down concepts into bite…

The most important thing is ensuring you build confidence in a students understanding of the subject as a whole as it is through this that a student would be able to face any questions that may be posed to them and have confidence within themselves that they are able to understand the topics given throughout their learning. Without this, you would…

Increasing a student's grade or helping them understand a single concept are just some of the things that most people look for in a tutor. While these are undoubtedly worthwhile indicators of a tutor's ability to teach a student, they are often mercurial and temporary once the tutoring stops. I firmly believe that what differentiates a good tutor…

Inside RowvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Bridget revised networks and graphs as well as matrices ahead of her SAC, focusing on interpreting network diagrams and matrix operations.

In Year 10, Cailin tackled challenging homework questions involving linear equations and quadratics, working through problem areas from previous assignments for clarity.

For Year 11, Alex reviewed financial mathematics topics like simple and compound interest using real-life scenarios, then practised solving related application problems to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In order to retain the content, she has to complete the assigned questions. Missing this step meant concepts in matrices and algebra slipped between sessions for the Year 10 student.

In Year 12 Chemistry, difficulty organizing formulas and recalling theory slowed progress on calculation-based tasks; a tutor observed that more work needs to be done to solve for x during problem-solving.

For a Year 7 student, not writing out notes during lessons led to distraction and gaps in understanding application questions.

Forgotten homework or partial revision made consolidating new skills harder each week.

Recent Achievements

One Rowville tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to indices: after struggling to identify which formula to use, she now spots the right method herself and works through examples without hesitation.

In another session with a Year 12 student, the tutor saw genuine progress as Bridget finished most of her SAC preparation on matrices and networks; this time, she didn't just recall formulas but explained why each step mattered.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously guessed answers during addition practice has started asking for help whenever unsure—last week, she completed all her grouping number questions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rowville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rowville Primary School.
