The most important thing about being a tutor is having commitment for their students, which means having enthusiasm for teaching as this will influence their students to be more engaged with their studies. As tutors are role-models for their student, hence, everything a tutor does will matter. Furthermore, tutors should be patient and have high…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to foster confidence in their students to independently learn and build confidence in their skills. A tutor should also be able to inspire curiosity so that students become better learners in their field and ask questions. Lastly, the tutor should be flexible to personalise the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help build their confidence in their own abilities. A tutor should create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions because it makes learning engaging and effective for each student. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to explain challenging…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is, emphasize the importance of practicing questions. Also ensure that the way they teach concepts is understandable and thorough. Making sure the student is open about their weaknesses and share any concerns they have about the material (most kids are shy when it comes to difficult concepts).…

A tutor needs to be able to have the appropriate expectation on what each unique student is able to accomplish and thus make adjustments appropriately. As every single student has different learning capabilities and speed, affected by a multitude of factors (i.e. age, environment, genetics, interests, etc.), a tutor would need to be able to make…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student believe they are capable. A lot of students have already decided they are bad at the subject, so rebuilding that confidence comes first. From there it is about helping them understand the thinking behind an answer, not just the answer itself. If they only memorise a method they…

Understand the feelings and character of different students. Some students who tutor may be gifted, however there are many also who may are demotivated and have a low-self esteem which causes them to believe they aren't good enough to excel. I believe tutors should change the perspective from studying from an extrinsic desire, for instance, marks…

From my point of view and based on my prior experience in this field, the most important and fair thing that a tutor is liable to do is to clarify the main concept to the learner first and then start solving relevant questions without jumping to this stage straightway. Tutor should ensure that the learner has learned the main points of concept…

A tutor can explain the practical applications of the subject he or she teaches in real life. As a tutor I can make my students visualise the concepts which cannot be grasped instantly. I believe that as a tutor I know the potential areas or concepts where students face problems to understand and I am confident to explain the tricky and difficult…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build trust, show patience, and create a supportive learning environment. When a student feels safe, understood, and not rushed, they're far more likely to engage, ask questions, and grow in confidence. Patience allows students to learn at their own pace, and trust ensures they…

Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. In this case, it is important for the tutor to encourage students and create a supportive learning environment in a way that helps the student see their progress. It is also important for a tutor to guide the student through a question, rather than just…

Let them vent! A tutor shouldn't just teach the student, they should also listen. Having a young, relatable, smart person in your life to discuss your problems with is invaluable to the younger generation. On top of this, tutors should provide advice on any aspect of a student's life, more than just the subject(s) they're receiving tutoring…

The first thing is showing them achieving anything is possible no mater how hard the task. Even if at first it seems impossible, by not giving up on them it can teach the student to always try and have faith in their abilities. The second thing is setting them up for success. Inside SchofieldsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Riya focused on structuring multi-digit equations neatly and practiced multiplication with two-digit numbers, then completed a spelling test to reinforce her English skills.

In Year 8, Shreya worked through long division using the "bus stop" method and explored figurative writing techniques, applying them in paragraph writing for English.

For Year 10, Ethan tackled algebraic linear equations—solving them step by step—and reviewed key concepts from recent school tests to strengthen his understanding before upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Science, one student hesitated to write lab reports quickly and struggled to analyze information independently—"needs to analyse and write any information given," noted a tutor—which slowed progress during experiments.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student in Chemistry had difficulty recalling formulas for balancing equations without prompts, often leaving related homework incomplete.

In Mathematics (Year 9), forgetting basic conversion rules led to confusion when tackling fractions and decimals; the student "gets confused where to divide and multiply."

A primary learner avoided rechecking answers in multiplication tasks, missing small sign errors that lingered into new work.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Schofields noticed Arham, a high school student, taking real initiative by asking questions when stuck and checking her own mistakes instead of waiting for prompts—something she used to avoid.

Alhena, also in high school, managed to solve tricky worded math problems independently after previously struggling with them, especially around fractions and decimals.

For a younger learner, Huyan's reading sessions became much more focused once he was allowed to read his favourite rap song; now he persists through unfamiliar words rather than giving up quickly, even reading out loud whole phrases from the lyrics without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vinegar Hill Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Schofields Public School.
