To nurture and help them grow as an individual not as a student. To encourage them even when they fail and to help them love the subject of interest instead of seeing it as a daunting task that they hate. I understand the requirements and needs to excel. I also employ a mindset to act as a friend/ peer to peer help instead of a domineering figure…

A tutor can change a student's perspective towards studies and make difficult subjects easy for them. Thereby boosting a student's confidence in the subject, which enables them to further share this knowledge with fellow classmates when they have a difficulty. I am very patient and willing to explain the concepts again and again with examples till…

The tutor should understand his subject matter to be able to deliver complicated ideas to the students simply and concisely. If the tutor cannot do so, he should further his knowledge of that subject matter. I love to use descriptive and outside the box methods to understand mathematical concepts. Because school teaching is restrict by time, the…

The goal of an english tutor is to help the students gain confidence in their subject and help the student with their grades. It is important a tutor is able to help a student gain enjoyment from the subject so that they are inspired and happy to continue to study when the tutor is not around. My greatest strengths are in tutoring English. I am…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do is to teach a student how to pursue their own studies, that is, if I can teach a student how to study without the need for a tutor, that's worth more than tutoring them the whole year and it will serve them well for the rest of their life. An excellent tutor will keep their students…

Taking initiative to bring the student out of their comfort zone. In a lot of cases, students fear showing their lack of knowledge, especially in group settings. However, it is important for the tutor to recognize this and invite the student into the circle of discussion and let them contribute. It is crucial to create a safe space that is…

I think the most important things I can do for a student revolve around mentorship. Being an english tutor is not just about imparting information and tips to the student. It is recognising the student as a whole, looking after their mental wellbeing, and ensuring that what they're learning is being tailored to them, rather than a cookie-cut…

Ensure that the student is gaining confidence and is improving. I believe its not the final result that counts, but its ensuring the student's mental health is taken care or whilst the student is experiencing a steady improvement. I believe I am a person with strong moral values that can grasp concepts relatively quickly. I also memorise content…

Above all else, I believe an english tutor should prioritise student wellbeing. Beyond academic achievement, it's essential to foster a sense of belonging, confidence and self-worth in each student. This involves attentive listening, emotional support, and creating a safe, judgement-free space. Additionally, empowering students to take ownership…

I consider an english tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor…

I consider the time and space an english tutor gives to the student the most important thing. It is all about what they, as the student, are comfortable with. A tutor does not just teach a student a particular subject. I believe that the most important function of an english tutor is to foster overall academic confidence in a student and to develop better study techniques/learning habits more generally. A good tutor can give a student motivation and techniques to achieve not only in the tutored subject,…

I think the best thing an english tutor can do for a student is to teach him different things while motivating the student and making sure he/she/they understand the essence of the teaching so that they can apply it in daily life rather than asking them to memorize different things. Inside Shenton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jack worked on converting between proper and improper fractions with denominators of 10, 100, and 1000, as well as placing decimals accurately on a number line.

In Year 8, Emily revised integers and negative numbers alongside substituting values into simple algebraic expressions.

For Year 9, Sam focused on factorisation techniques and applying the first three index laws to simplify algebraic terms.

Recent Challenges

Jacob did not attempt the homework set for him last lesson, especially in advanced algebra and index laws, which limited progress with new topics.

In Year 10 Physics, skipping written diagrams made abstract problems harder to visualise and led to confusion when tackling free body questions.

For a Year 6 learner, not writing out working for fraction and subtraction tasks meant errors went unnoticed and wasted time retracing steps.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student's messy approach to telling time on clock faces made it difficult to spot where understanding broke down during practice.

Recent Achievements

One Shenton Park tutor recently noticed a big shift with Jacob in Year 10 Maths: after struggling to remember each step, he started writing out his full working for index law problems, which helped him finish homework faster and more accurately than before.

A senior student who previously hesitated to sketch graphs can now confidently draw derivatives and explain how they relate to the original function—something that used to cause confusion.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Pria has become much more proactive about telling her tutor which maths topics she finds tricky instead of guessing or staying quiet.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosalie Primary School.
