I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, make learning approachable, and tailor explanations to their unique needs. A good tutor doesn’t just teach the material—they create a supportive environment where the student feels encouraged to ask questions and grow. My strengths as a tutor are…

The most important things a tutor can do are:- * Provide enough explanation until the student is able to develop his/her own approach to a question and logically solve it step by step, while understanding the reason behind each step. *A tutor should also be willing to solve any kind of doubt and do that as soon as possible, since dealing…

Communication. Adaptability. Patience. Understanding. My ability to break down difficult and complex concepts into a step-wise and relatable format is unmatched. I honestly believe every student has the capacity to reach the level of intelligence they desire. It's just a matter of connection and personalised learning that separates them from that…

One of the most important things I can do for a student is to help them understand the real value of what they’re learning. I do this by connecting concepts to real-world applications, sharing examples from industry and research where even a single idea can lead to major advancements. By showing the impact and relevance of each topic, I…

I believe a tutor can make all the difference to a student struggling with their studies. School teaching can often be mechanical and impersonal; an environment where some students find it difficult to learn. I know first hand that teaching in smaller groups or one-on-one works is much more effective at learning hard to grasp concepts. The impact…

A tutor should be well-prepared in ensuring students completely comprehend subject that is being taught. A tutor should be prepared to answer all sorts of question asked by the students. An excellent tutor should be genuinely interested in the students understanding. He/she should not be afraid to acknowledge anything they do not know. Instead,…

Not only can tutors help build up a students' confidence in areas they are particularly weak in, but they can also give insight into what is to come in further years of school and how to prepare for such content. I believe I am good at breaking down harder concepts into individual relatable, easy to understand components to teach separately, then…

The most important thing would be to instill interest. To be called a succesfull tutor, one need to instill interest to their students to study during their own time, because we only meet them once or twice a week and most of the time they have to learn by themselves. I believe building a relationship with the student is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student, as it allows the tutor to recognize that each student has their own unique learning styles. Zane is finally grasping concepts that he always found confusing in class. Alan has been very patient with Zane, as there is quite a bit of work to do. Zane would not have received this personal time in class, due to time, disruptions etc.. Thank goodness we are starting now before NAPLAN in 2 weeks and highschool in 2019.

Inside South CoogeeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Isla worked on fractions and telling time using Mathletics activities, with extra practice on word problems.

Year 10 student Dharsshen tackled a challenging essay question focused on structuring arguments and refining thesis statements, as well as reviewing his completed essay for clarity and coherence.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Amira prepared for her HSC English exam by revising thesis development and practicing short-answer responses worth 20 marks to strengthen analytical skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 English student, under pressure from school commitments, began "rushing his work," which led to persistent errors in grammar and punctuation.

In creative writing for Year 8, a reluctance to add detail meant stories lacked vivid description—one tutor observed missing commas where new sentences should have started, making the writing harder to follow.

A Year 5 student struggled with homework page formatting; unclear layouts made it difficult to identify main points or corrections.

In poetry revision for Year 10, another avoided reviewing unfamiliar texts, risking gaps in exam readiness by focusing only on preferred material.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in South Coogee noticed that a Year 10 student, Dharsshen, who used to struggle with structuring essays, now independently spots argument flaws and recently incorporated teacher feedback for the first time.

In Year 11 English, Mohit moved from vague thesis statements to writing a much stronger argument and even achieved a notable 16/20 on an essay—he previously lost more marks due to unclear structure.

Meanwhile, Miyah (Year 4) shifted from guessing answers in maths to using pen-and-paper strategies and talking through her process out loud until she found the right solution herself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like South Coogee Public School.
