The most important things a tutor can do is to guide students to be able to learn and figure out problems themselves. A good tutor will personalize the learning experience teaching to the students strengths so they can more easily undersand difficult concepts. In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is believing in the students and their ability to succeed, thus, of course not only me but my students will never give up on themselves but be more motivated to become better and better everyday. As a tutor, my major strength is my experience. I have been teaching for a long…

I think that a tutor can help a student in every way. A tutor can allow the student to develop socially, mentally and philosophically. I think i can understand a student's mindset. I know how to teach them in order to let them enjoy their studies. I allow a student to realize his potential and apply that in his…

Education can be extremely enjoyable but, understandably, if students cannot grasp concepts and ideas, they quickly lose interest. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to show their students that learning can actually be fun by teaching them about new ways of thinking. This, in turn, would help them engage in the content of a…

A tutor can become the greatest asset to a student. In that regards, not only should they provide academic support, but also a certain degree of physical / emotion support, particularly with senior students. Not to mention a tutor can recommend pathways and answer any queries students may have of the future with university and employment. I…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help faciliate and devolop an independant learning process. By this I mean helping the student to learn, by not just giving them the answer but by helping them to reach the answer on their own. This way they will be able to do similar probelms in future, without assistance, and…

A tutor has to enable the student. Teaching them specific knowledge only goes so far. A tutor needs to give a student confidence that they can overcome their academic obstacles. Teach a student how to obtain resources in order to learn in their own time too. A tutor should be someone that the student can lean back on, if they have trouble finding…

Firstly, it's essential to identify their strengths and weaknesses to create a customized learning plan. This may involve adapting my teaching style, introducing alternative resources, or providing additional practice in areas…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show them their worth, learning-wise. There are so many people who convince themselves that they are incapable of obtaining good marks, setting them up for instant failure. A good tutor is one who can identify strengths as well as weaknesses, and rather than use the…

I understand that a tutor can significantly reduce the burden of academic chores off the shoulders of a student and hence support the efforts towards more productive activities. One of the most important things a teacher can do for their student is to listen. Not to listen to think of the next response but to listen to understand. Inside Sunshine NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Allegra worked through ordering fractions on a number line and practiced adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions in revision exercises.

In Year 10, Jayden completed practice exams for an upcoming maths test, focusing on applying algebraic techniques and problem-solving under timed conditions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Arjun focused on quadratic equations by learning to use the quadratic formula and mastering the discriminant to solve for unknown constants and intersection points.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student relied heavily on memorization in Methods and hesitated to use the graphic calculator efficiently, slowing progress with quadratic problems. As a tutor noted, "needs much more practice with the graphic calculator… and mastering the quadratic formula."

In contrast, a Year 5 student repeatedly forgot to bring books home or complete homework, making it hard to track content or prepare for upcoming lessons—she arrived without materials and struggled to recall past work.

Organization lapses and inconsistent revision led both students to forget key methods or feel unprepared when new topics appeared, leaving them frustrated in-session.

Recent Achievements

One Sunshine North tutor recently noticed a Year 7 student who used to avoid asking for help now regularly pauses to check her understanding before moving on, showing much more initiative than in earlier sessions.

In high school, a Year 10 student who once needed step-by-step guidance with circular functions can now recall key values and solve complex questions mentally. Last week she completed advanced problems under timed conditions with minimal prompting.

Another win came from a Year 12 maths session where the student applied newly learned formulas to trickier graphing questions and immediately explained her reasoning back to the tutor without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brimbank Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Bernadette's School.
