Empathy is key. If a tutor can show how learning certain topics can help a student in the future, it keeps the student's interest held in the subject for longer. What really helps is to periodically give some positive feedback to the student about their progress - how he or she has improved in the past 3 months, or month, for example. Because of…

The most important thing to me is creating the networks for students to think for and teach themselves whenever our time is up. It's the classic saying, "give a man a fish he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for his whole life". A tutor should, like any good teacher, provide the student with the tools to critically evaluate…

I consider that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to make them feel confident going to class every day and not feel that they are behind their class as well as look forward to an exam to share all of their knowledge with the markers rather than dread an exam, also reducing their stress and encouraging them to enjoy school.…

The most important things a tutor can do is build understanding, confidence, and independence through patient teaching. This comes from consistent, repetitive practice and regularly asking students questions to check their understanding, rather than just explaining content. It’s important that students feel comfortable speaking up when they’re…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them because the student is the one who knows what they're struggling with and they are the ones who are going to tell me what they need to learn. Furthermore, I think it is important to teach students how to learn and study so that they can keep learning and working…

This allows the student too actively and voluntarily complete work and studies that benefits them, to ultimately respond better in testing situations or assessments. My strengths…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build trust, encourage genuine confidence, and teach students how to learn independently. It's not just about helping them get through one subject or assignment, it's about giving them the skills and self-belief they can carry with them into everything else they do. I think my main strengths…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build the student's confidence and give them both the belief and motivation that they can achieve the academic goals that they have set. I think the most important facet is personalising lesson plans and taking time to understand the main shortcomings of each individual student. Being able to have open conversations and earn students trust to offer constructive feedback that extends outside the lesson - e.g dealing with mental stress and study regimes - can be far more important to…

To my point of view, there are two most important thing that a tutor needs to do for a student. The first one is knowledge, because it it more useful if the tutor explains the problems and give only suggestions, directions to the student rather than just simply provide the student with the answer. That question will not appear exactly the same in…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence and foster independent thinking. I think for a tutor a combination of two things is the best, firstly giving the students confidence as I found that my tutor gave my confidence in my abilities that I previously had not experienced in some subjects which eventually led to my success. Also providing the best ability to teach and foster improvements in knowledge and skills to…

Maintain a positive attitude, take away the stress from learning, guide them and restructure their approach to studying when they come across roadblocks. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

A tutor must always have patience for their students. They cannot rush them, and a student cannot be forced to understand specific content. The most important things for a tutor is to be a source of support that they can reach out to, not only in the specific subject that they're tutoring, but also studying and school life in general. EzyMath Tutoring has been a wonderful experience for us. It was easy to organise in my busy schedule and convenient as the tutor comes to us at time that works. My son connected with his tutor from the get go and it was great to know EziMath Tutoring are always supportive with any questions I had. I thought the fees were very reasonable.

Inside TamaramaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Paolo worked on differentiating equations to find stationary points and applied the product, quotient, and chain rules to various functions, as well as tackling definite and indefinite integration for area under curves.

Year 10 lessons with Emily included graphing trigonometric functions using the unit circle and breaking down formulas like Asin(nx+b)+C, plus exploring properties of cubics and hyperbolas through hands-on graphing exercises.

For a Year 8 student, recent sessions focused on mean, median, range, and interquartile range in statistics, alongside algebraic simplification involving unknowns in denominators.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly arrived without completed homework, so lesson time was diverted to catching up rather than advancing ("homework from the previous week could not be checked as he could not find it").

In Year 11, a student avoided writing out working in unit conversion problems—opting to show only final answers. As a tutor noted, "he is only providing a final answer which is bad practice," making it hard to pinpoint misunderstandings and reinforce correct methods.

For another senior student, relying on memorizing steps instead of understanding (conversion tasks) meant new question types felt unfamiliar and slowed progress during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Tamarama tutor noticed Jessy, a senior student, finally connecting tricky calculus concepts—after previously struggling with the product and quotient rules, she completed several differentiation questions independently, even handling inverse trig functions for the first time.

In another session, Tobey (Year 9) demonstrated a clear shift: he used to need step-by-step help with ratio word problems but now solves financial maths questions on his own and checks his work for errors without prompting.

Meanwhile, Lucas made tangible progress in algebra; after reviewing past mistakes on an exam paper together, he corrected every solution himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bondi Public School.
