I believe that the most important thing about a biology tutor is their ability to motivate and encourage a student in their learning journey. A tutor must be able to show enthusiasm and positivity towards learning, and rather than using rote learning techniques, to engage the student so that they can demonstrate longevity in their education. It is…

The most important thing is ensuring you build confidence in a students understanding of the subject as a whole as it is through this that a student would be able to face any questions that may be posed to them and have confidence within themselves that they are able to understand the topics given throughout their learning. Without this, you would…

Tutors should be able to build independence and confidence in the student, allowing them to improve their problem solving skills and gain new approaches or strategies to learning. My strengths are that I can easily adapt to a student\'s needs, by changing my approach to the topic either by simplifying it further or bringing in other concepts to…

To teach students that it is okay to be wrong or make mistakes as long as you correct it afterwards. It is important to attempt to answer each question on a test and work sheet as if you attempt it then you might get some points on your final grade. It is also important to become self confident and trust that you can tackle any problem. I will…

I believe tutor should share their experience with their students. As someone who has walked in their shoes, tutors should be able to share new knowledges and experiences, something that a teacher wouldn’t be able to sympathise with. Therefore, besides teaching them facts about a specific topics, tutors should go above and beyond, providing…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do is make a student feel heard and valued. Having that listening ear for your student is important as every child is different. I acknowledge that passing on knowledge such as how to use Pythagoras is important, I would love to inspire students to love learning and being creative in the way that approaches a math issue. I believe that the most important thing that a biology tutor can do for a student is to impose upon them the enjoyment of the process of learning. Inside WaterwaysTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ethan practised writing numbers in expanded form and solved digit combination challenge questions that required using each digit only once.

For Year 10, Sarah worked on solving quadratic equations by factorisation and was introduced to the discriminant, applying these concepts directly to her schoolwork.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James focused on finding equations of lines given a gradient and a point, then continued assigned work on linear relations using his Easter homework sheet.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student frequently avoided writing out algebra steps, preferring to do calculations mentally—this made it hard to catch sign errors and led to confusion when checking answers ("he had the habit of trying to do all the steps in his head before answering").

In a Year 11 Physics session, equations from electromagnetism were only vaguely recalled unless prompted, as no organized summary or reference list was maintained.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student with creative story ideas found transferring thoughts onto paper challenging; great verbal detail vanished when faced with the blank page. Each instance meant time spent retracing rather than progressing.

Recent Achievements

One Waterways tutor noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help now confidently requesting clarification on using the calculator's shift function for inverse trigonometry—he then completed angle problems independently.

In Year 8, a student who used to guess at comprehension answers began searching for "hints" within texts and solved worded maths questions without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger learner in Year 4, once distracted during spelling activities, managed to write each target word three times as directed and sorted them into categories with much more focus than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dingley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Aspendale Gardens Primary School.
