The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help the student to overcome the fear of failure and give the student motivation that he/she can achieve anything by consistent practice. Help in gaining the knowledge conceptually and not by just mugging up text books so that the student can be absolutely confident with the particular…

One of the most important skills for a tutor is to be able to word and explain concepts in a multitude of ways, rather than having one single explanation. Being able to explain a concept or theory from its most basic components and then slowly build up the information for the student is one of the most important skills to have and thing to do for…

Help him to go further and improve himself by providing better advice than a classroom teacher. As a tutor, I would be able to focus on my student to understand his strengths and weaknesses better than anyone. With this knowledge the tutor could provide advices focused on how to correct the student and allow him to have better scores easily. I'm…

Important things a tutor can do for a student are, 1. Giving children time and opportunity to develop their skills. 2. Encourage them to learn/try new things and let them learn from their mistakes and learn new experiences. 3. Break the task in to smaller steps that will incrementally build in to task objective. 4. Use learner's own words,…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When I listen and spend…

A good tutor is able to give constructive criticism, push a student to reach his/her best, and knows when to praise a student for their hard work. Understanding should always come before application, which is why building strategies and confidence must come first and foremost. A tutor should be able to give students the tools to complete their…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student love a subject because if this happens, the improvement will follow mechanically. A tutor should be able to make the student challenge himself and want to improve for his own sake. The tutor must also make sure that the morale of the student remains high as he should…

I think most importantly a tutor can teach a student how to deal or tackle difficult situations. They can help them for life long strategies to study and solve problems. School is the foundation of your higher studies, and a tutor helps in forming the basics strong which will help them for a successful career. I think I have great listening and…

The best thing a tutor can do is help a student work it out at their own level. While it can be easy to just explain it in general terms, figuring out how the student learns is very important. I am fairly amicable, meaning I can form a connection with the student which can help with teaching them. I'm also good at understanding written…

Be able to come up with a of going about problems that arise in mathematics in a way that works for the student as each student is different. The main priority of a tutor is ensuring the student understands the subject so this is what they should aim to achieve in any way possible. A tutor should be the extra level of assistance when the student needs them. Ultimately, tutors should motivate students to learn and be enthusiastic about learning, which is the most important aspect of…

Lay a proper foundation of basic concepts. It is not enough to give them shortcuts to quickly solve problems. Shortcuts are handy when practicing for quizzes and tests, and they also will help a student understand the concepts. But I think a tutor should strive to cater their teaching to aim to provide a student a solid understanding of the…

I think it is extremely important to treat a student with respect. I don't want to make them feel less by not knowing the answer and thus it is extremely important to encourage them constantly and to remember that they are here to learn, not to loose self-confidence. The team at EzyMath tutoring are great. From the initial on-boarding to account queriers through to additional resources they have been prompt, proactive and really helpful - going above and beyond rather than just providing the basic answer. Linh, out tutor is fabulous, she is patient and knowledgeable and has provided my son with some new strategies and ways to approach his work. He's even finding himself enjoying maths and his confidence is building. I would highly recommend the team at EzyMath

Inside Ascot ValeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 Will consolidated understanding of integration, focusing on finding areas between curves and definite integrals, then tackled probability concepts such as discrete random variables, expected value, and standard deviation.

For Year 12 Thanh, lessons centred on interpreting IR spectra and mass spectrometry results, alongside volumetric analysis techniques like identifying titrants and equivalence points.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Emma reviewed galvanic cells by comparing primary and secondary types and practiced explaining the limitations of electrochemical series in exam-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Maths Methods, Will often left classwork and chapter questions incomplete, which slowed his ability to master new concepts—one tutor noted, "Will was fairly behind his work and needed to catch up in maths."

During SACs and practice exams, inconsistent time management meant several questions were left unanswered or only partially attempted, costing valuable marks.

In Chemistry (Year 11), there was a tendency to re-ask previously answered questions without reviewing feedback, leading to repeated confusion on core ideas like titrations; as one session highlighted, "Thanh asked a few of the same questions that she asked last week."

Recent Achievements

One Ascot Vale tutor noticed a significant shift in Will, a senior student who now comes to sessions with specific questions prepared and has started tackling exam-style problems independently—something he hesitated to do before.

Another high school student, Thanh, recently brought along a set of self-identified weak points and was able to answer complex chemistry questions by linking new content to previous lessons, showing much more initiative than earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, Alice, in Year 8 science, managed to quickly apply tricky nomenclature rules for branched alkanes after initially struggling with the topic. This shows rapid mastery of concepts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ascot Vale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ascot Vale Primary School.
