The most important role as a tutor is to give students confidence in their knowledge and ability. In my personal opinion, objectively high grades (e.g. 80% or more) should not be placed with as high importance as most people tend to do. I believe that if a student understands the content on a level that allows them to make connections or provide…

I consider building confidence in a student highly important when tutoring. In my experience as a teacher, students often value one on one teaching where available. Being able to focus on one student and their needs within their own education, builds a more confident student whether in their work, or when seeking assistance from teachers. Building…

identify how they learn and incorporate that into the information as well as building a rapport. I think my friendliness and down to earth nature helps the students find me as a teacher that they can rely on rather than being afraid or nervous. I think the most important thing a tutor can be is willing to help. When a tutor genuinely wants to see a student thrive and improve, it significantly increases the quality of their service and helps students feel heard and valued. This is far more effective than when a tutor's effort is slack. I can communicate with individuals clearly and…

A good tutor is able to give constructive criticism, push a student to reach his/her best, and knows when to praise a student for their hard work. Understanding should always come before application, which is why building strategies and confidence must come first and foremost. A tutor should be able to give students the tools to complete their…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is be patient and understanding and cater the tutoring style towards the students' needs and learning style; in doing so it'll be easier for the student to learn and in turn will make learning an enjoyable thing rather than a chore. The most important thing a tutor can do is to understand the student, from their goals; strengths; weaknesses and how they best respond to learning. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be reliable and on time, understand the way in which they learn, whether it is visually or through detailed descriptions and providing the skills on how to get to an answer rather simply giving a student the answer. I consider communication to be the most important thing a tutor can do for a student, if the communication is not there it’s harder for the student to learn their content meaning grades won’t be at optimal level. Inside BrooklynTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Vincent reviewed mixed numbers, area and volume, percentages, ratios, and introductory algebra while also practising reading comprehension and grammar.

In Year 10, Daniel worked on graphing linear inequalities and representing them visually, alongside simplifying expressions in algebra.

For Year 11, Alyssa focused on completing the square for quadratics as well as exploring the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule in trigonometry using step-by-step problem sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often arrived without their class notes or required materials, which made it hard to bridge knowledge gaps—significant gaps in their knowledge that will require further study.

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student missed several weeks due to injury and needed intensive test preparation; this left little time for developing independent revision habits.

For a Year 7 learner, skipping careful reading of worded maths problems meant solutions were sometimes off-target.

Meanwhile, a senior student working on trigonometry lacked confidence with unit circle values and hesitated to attempt questions without reference aids. This slowed progress during practice tests.

Recent Achievements

One Brooklyn tutor noted a Year 10 student who had previously relied on hints is now independently spotting and correcting their own algebra mistakes during sessions.

A recent high school chemistry lesson saw a student, who used to mix up empirical and molecular formulas, clearly explain the difference between them without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary years, a Year 4 learner who would often guess answers now confidently asks for help when stuck—showing they're comfortable voicing what they don't understand.

Last session, that same student finished all ten questions without skipping any or giving up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Yarraville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Annunciation School.
