As a tutor, I believe the most important thing is to help one who helps others to digest concepts and knowledge in an interactive and friendly environment while retaining their interest to study the knowledge. Also, I am also the one who analyse knowledge and mistake and seeks improvement in the exam preparation period, as I would help the student…

I see tutoring not just as a way to fill in the holes that are left at the end of the school day, but as infinitely fulfilling, important work that bridges worlds and builds a stronger future for children, one at a time. I can speak 3 languages: english, cantonese and mandarin fluently. iI did volunteer tutoring in a primary school before, I can…

A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

In my perspective, the most important role of a tutor is to foster a deep understanding of the subject matter while nurturing a positive attitude towards learning. Building a strong foundation and instilling confidence in students are vital. Beyond that, effective communication and the ability to create a supportive learning environment are…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ensure that the student feels confident in their learning and believes in themselves. If a student is more confident in their abilities, they will feel more motivated to continue to learn and understand concepts deeply. I believe as a tutor it's important to create an environment where…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence. When students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, they're much more willing to learn. A great tutor also adapts their teaching style to each student and helps them develop problem-solving skills, rather than just memorising answers. Good…

An ability to communicate a genuine passion for the subject. Patience and being calm in the delivery of the content. I think reassurance that there is often a feeling of uncertainty through the learning process and that this is perfectly ok and a sign that learning is happening. Being structured in the delivery of the content so that there can…

In general, I believe that the best way to teach Maths/Science is in a way which the student understands the concepts rather than just giving the student a method to produce an answer, which is how these subjects are commonly taught. 1. I am self-directed, energetic, and enthusiastic. I have completed my Bachelor of Engineering + Management…

One of the main roles of a tutor is to support their student's learning and understanding. As a tutor, it is not only important to provide as much assistance and help as possible, but also to encourage them to think independently. By thoroughly explaining the concepts to them in a fun and engaging manner, they will develop a deeper appreciation…

A tutor should always motivate a student even if he/she is not performing well. A tutor should identify the strength of the student and work accordingly. I have worked as a teacher also in one of the IB school in India. For the first six months I worked in an Additional learning support department where I learnt about differentiated teaching and…

For a tutor, the most important thing is to increase the curiosity of the student, for the subject that they are learning. Exams are important. The most important thing a tutor can do is help the student develop interest for the subject. Once the student is throughly interested in the subject, he/she starts to explore on their own. After that the tutor just needs to guide the student in the correct path and occasionally help with difficult problems. However this is not an easy task.…

I think one of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence within them. I believe confidence is the key for all students across any level to be able to achieve their desired study outcomes. Without the belief that they have the skills and resources to succeed in any aspect they desire, students can be left…

Role of tutor is not to make a student learn single subject, but understand students' learning rhythm and motivations. If you can't challenge student in learning path, it will benefit him in short run, but in long run he will fail miserably. Learning is the experience of fun and enjoyment. Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. Understanding the student's learning pace: Every student is unique and have their own pace of learning. As a tutor you need to adapt to that. I am…

I think that a good tutor should be able to inspire and motivate their student to do well. They should also be able to relate with the student and understand how they learn best so that they can teach them well. They must also have the skill set and knowledge to explain difficult concepts. The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient. Every student learns differently and at their own pace, and if a concept doesn't click the first time, it's on the tutor to keep finding new ways to explain it rather than getting frustrated or rushing them. As a tutor, my students are encouraged to ask questions without hesitation. Local Reviews

I am extremely happy with service from ezymath and the tutor is of a very high standard. We have had Dexter for a year now and she is very professional and has a natural teaching ability. She has developed a good rapport with my children and their grades have certainly improved. Dexter has a great work ethic and always prompt.

Inside Brunswick EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Edie worked on algebraic rules and explored how to expand and factorise expressions, building readiness for upcoming classwork.

Year 8 student Sophia focused on applying angle rules after wrapping up algebra topics, practising with a range of geometric questions.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Alina tackled common errors from a recent quiz by working through algebra skills such as substitution and simplification, using targeted practice to strengthen her understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student left several test answers blank after struggling with terminology and inverse function concepts, a challenge deepened by missing some class content.

As one tutor observed, "she needed a lot of prompting to work through questions," particularly when her textbook was forgotten at home.

In Year 8 mathematics, messy handwriting and skipping written steps led to confusion during multi-step fraction problems—errors often went unnoticed until too late.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student relied heavily on mental calculations for division, which resulted in small mistakes that repeated across practice sessions. This slowed confidence-building as errors lingered uncorrected.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Brunswick East noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to write out her algebra steps is now working through substitution problems independently, only checking in for the trickiest parts.

Another high schooler, who often guessed when stuck on factorising, took the initiative this week to create her own step-by-step cheat sheet and now refers back to it without prompting during practice.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled with choosing between long and short division has started explaining aloud which method she's using and why before starting each problem.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brunswick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady Help of Christians School.
