The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instill a sense of confidence in the student about their own ability. The tutor can demonstrate to the student that they can achieve their different goals and help them achieve these. The tutor can also create a plan to show the student how to goal will be achieved. This will create a…

With real world experience and knowledge. I have a better understanding of how to apply curriculum material to real-world situations. for example, showing students how financial and data roles benefit math which may encourage them to take math seriously. I have a lot of patience which allows me to handle more challenging students. Whether working…

A tutor can change a student's perspective towards studies and make difficult subjects easy for them. Thereby boosting a student's confidence in the subject, which enables them to further share this knowledge with fellow classmates when they have a difficulty. I am very patient and willing to explain the concepts again and again with examples till…

The goal of a tutor is to help the students gain confidence in their subject and help the student with their grades. It is important a tutor is able to help a student gain enjoyment from the subject so that they are inspired and happy to continue to study when the tutor is not around. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to teach a student how to pursue their own studies, that is, if I can teach a student how to study without the need for a tutor, that's worth more than tutoring them the whole year and it will serve them well for the rest of their life. An excellent tutor will keep their students motivated and…

The tutor should understand his subject matter to be able to deliver complicated ideas to the students simply and concisely. If the tutor cannot do so, he should further his knowledge of that subject matter. I love to use descriptive and outside the box methods to understand mathematical concepts. Because school teaching is restrict by time, the…

1. Providing a figure of support - It's important that a student feels comfortable asking their tutor questions and knows that they will be taken seriously no matter how simple the question may seem. 2. Encouragement - It's easy for students to lose confidence when they can't understand something, and as a tutor it's important that you can help…

I think one extremely important thing a tutor can do is to adapt their teaching to the individual needs and abilities of each student, and adapt themselves to the student, not force the student to adapt to them. This involves listening to the student and observing how they work and then responding to those things. Another extremely important thing…

A good tutor can instill confidence, curiosity and independence in their student, so that they will want to learn and improve even when studying on their own. Tutors need to be patient, not every student is equally as smart, or equally as attentive. You have to find a balance. A great example I think would be is planting a seed. After you put the seed in the ground, you can put all the water in the world, but it's not gonna grow into a tree in just one day, just like a student, you will break the…

A tutor should provide what a teacher can't. There is a reason that students seek tutoring, and it is therefore a tutor's role to meet their needs. I believe patience is the most important thing. I think to be able to cater to each sutdent individually is the most important thing a tutor can do. Each student learns and processes information differently. Inside ClaremontTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Ethan focused on exponential functions and polynomial equations, including practice with graphing and algebraic manipulation.

In Year 10, Mia tackled the circle theorem and polynomial division, working through geometric proofs alongside algebraic long division problems.

For primary support, Year 4 student Tilly worked on multiplication strategies for two- and three-digit numbers as well as area and perimeter calculations using real-life worded examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student found it difficult to slow down and write out all variables when approaching physics questions, leading to confusion over what was being asked. "It is always best practice to slow down and write down all your variables prior to starting any working out," one tutor observed after a rushed attempt left key steps missing.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student sometimes skipped back-checking answers in algebra, which meant sign errors weren't spotted until much later.

In primary maths, a Year 4 student struggled with lining up numbers during addition and subtraction, resulting in misplaced digits and basic calculation errors.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Claremont recently noticed some great changes: one high school student who used to rush through tests has started slowing down to carefully read each question, which helped him spot and fix errors he previously missed.

Another older student now uses pen-to-paper and back-checking strategies without being prompted—just a few weeks ago, she needed reminders for these steps but now applies them on her own when tackling complex worksheets.

In primary sessions, a Year 5 girl who struggled with her 7 times tables is now able to answer random multiplication questions quickly and confidently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Claremont Community Hub & Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Methodist Ladies' College.
