I believe that the most important things tutors can do for students are giving them the right tools to overcome their academic challenges and also cultivating curiosity in their minds so they can improve their weaknesses on their own. I consider some of my strengths as a tutor to be effective communication, adaptability to different forms of…

Besides teaching them methods of solving questions all the time. I prefer to help them to understand the concepts and theorems about certain topics, I believe that's more useful and effective. I am patient, energetic and friendly. And I was a high student not long ago, so I can understand and get what my students may feel is difficult to…

I believe a tutor must build a students understanding and confidence. It’s not just about helping them get the right answers, but making sure they actually understand the reasoning so that they can also succeed independently. I also believe that it is vital for a tutor to allow the student to not feel afraid to ask questions or make mistakes,…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to lay a right foundation for the student to learn. Teaching them not to memorise formulae but to actually understand the theory behind the formula as higher levels of maths rely on prior knowledge that needs to be firmly understood. My strengths lie within my experience and personality. I…

A tutor who can do this can make lessons more engaging, identify learning barriers, and help students build genuine confidence and enjoyment in learning. Achieving this requires patience, empathy, and a willingness to understand each student’s…

One of the most important things would be the environment the tutor and student are in. The more comfortable but slightly stressed-out the students are, the more productive the tutoring session would be. Another essential aspect of tutoring would be the ability for the tutor to deeply understand the concept themselves in order for them to simplify…

The most important thing a student can do for a student is help them fully understand why a concept work rather than how to do it. If a student practices answering 100 mathematical problems without knowing how to properly solve them, sure they'll be able to solve those 100 problems but if something else is thrown their way they will have no idea…

Build a trusting relationship with them that makes them feel comfortable asking questions, as the large classroom environment sometimes intimidates kids and makes them feel like a question they want to ask is 'dumb' because everyone else seems fine with the concept (even though they usually aren't). Inside Clemton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and previewed long division, while also working on understanding maths in word problems through homework tasks.

In Year 8, Lucas focused on factorising quadratic equations and revising how to use the quadratic formula to solve them, including discussing what "roots" mean for parabolas.

Year 9 student Sarah worked on manipulating linear equations by making a variable the subject and used tables and graphs to explore relationships between variables.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided writing working for long division, preferring mental methods; this led to mistakes he couldn't check or fix—"He needs more practice to ensure he follows the new method instead of depending on his older method."

In Year 11 trigonometry, a tendency to regurgitate formulas without showing process meant errors went unnoticed.

For a Year 3 student, skipping homework and resisting new ways of setting out sums blocked progress with fractions.

Another in Year 7 hesitated to ask questions during algebra revision, missing feedback that would have clarified misconceptions and built confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Clemton Park tutor noticed a big change in Willa, a high school student who used to get stuck on wordy maths problems—she now asks questions when unsure and recently solved several tricky ones on her own using new strategies.

Cooper, also in high school, shifted from waiting for hints to actively looking for solutions and tackling quadratic equations with much more independence than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously needed help reading longer passages managed to read an entire book out loud solo this week, only stumbling over a couple of words.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley North Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clemton Park Public School.
