If they know the students quite well only then they could develop the educational materials and classes that caters the student's need. Next big thing is encouraging the students and help them maintain a positive attitude. Only if the student is motivated and have positive…

I think if I was a student I would want my tutor to be less intimidating and focus more on building my confidence, not only in the topics that is being but also to participate and join in the learning experience whether my answers are right or wrong. My strength as a tutor would be the breaking down of complex topics using example and relatable…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be there for students at their bad times and not ridicule them. If a student has a bad time and cannot fully focus on studies, a tutor should help them and understand that its not the person but the situation that is leading to this. A tutor should go to the full extent to help the student get better at…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel understood and supported, not judged. Learning can be really challenging, especially when you’re already dealing with pressure, self doubt, or even language barriers. In the end, what matters most is that a tutor helps a student find confidence in their own ability to learn…

I think the most important thing is to encourage a student to be independent and learning how to solve their own problems. So, by not giving them the answers outright but ensuring that they are taught key methods that enable them to solve their own issue is very important especially in the long term. I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. Tutor should look after their students and if they have any bad habit then it's tutor responsibility to guide them in right direction and also inform their parents. Tutor can make hard subject into…

For maths, I think the most important thing for students is to understand the concepts rather than just knowing the formula themselves. It really helps build the foundation to solve maths problems, especially in maths specialists which requires critical thinking. Inside CloverdaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student James worked on quadratic polynomials and circle proofs, also exploring basic vector applications through worked examples.

For Year 11, Sarah focused on trig functions involving angles and tackled division of cubic polynomials, using step-by-step breakdowns for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Priya revised trigonometric identities and logarithms, with targeted practice simplifying complex expressions and reviewing previous errors to consolidate understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student's exam performance suffered because essential notes were left at home—"he didn't bring notes to the exam when he was supposed to," making it harder to recall key steps under pressure.

In Year 9, messy solution layouts in algebra meant errors took longer to find and fix, slowing progress during practice sessions.

One Year 8 student avoided showing working on trigonometry problems, so even correct answers made it tough to spot where misunderstandings crept in.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner's multiplication mistakes persisted when working alone; missing written steps meant they couldn't retrace their thinking after errors appeared.

Recent Achievements

In a Cloverdale tutoring session, a Year 11 student finally started showing his working in complex test questions, where previously he'd leave answers blank if unsure. Now he's at least writing out steps even when stuck.

Another high schooler who struggled to organise solutions has begun pinpointing exactly where she went wrong and explaining her thinking, rather than quietly moving on; this shift has made review sessions more productive.

In Year 5, one student who used to rush through interest problems now pauses to read questions carefully before solving, helping avoid mistakes and finish all tasks set for the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ruth Faulkner Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cloverdale Primary School.
