I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

A tutor’s most important role is to empower the student to become an independent learner. This involves not only clarifying difficult concepts but also teaching effective study strategies, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving techniques. A tutor should create a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where students feel comfortable…

Imparting information is an important part of being a tutor, but modelling curiosity, a genuine love of learning and knowledgem and above all showing others what it looks like to be passionate about the at or discipline is as important. Communicating with the parents regularly, learning the students weaknesses, monitoring their work and helping…

Be their friend and role model. Students have already enough to deal with in school. They need someone to listen to them and help them to clarify all their doubts. In a nutshell, I think a tutor must be : --> A friend --> An academic trainer --> A mentor --> A planner As a tutor, i focus more on an overall development than just focusing on the…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is give students space and time to develop their own way of thinking, rather than forcing them to follow a strict curriculum or systematic approach. This helps them build independent problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of concepts. My strength as a tutor is incorporating educational…

I feel if a tutor can leave the student with a longing for learning more or a satisfaction that they conquered a difficult topic is most important. I can give examples that the person can relate to which makes the topic easier to understand. I also know where a student might face difficulties on a certain…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

He/She can secure the future of kid. Kids are like tender flowers so it is important to handle them with care. A tutor not only can help in passing the knowlegde but also can help him/her understand the life experience which he/she has seen till now. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to let the students enjoy and appreciate the lesson. Only then, they will be able to understand and excel in the subjects. A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

The most important thing would be to create a safe space for students, so they will feel welcomed and understood. This can build their confidence as well. As a tutor, it is your obligation to teach in a way that your pupil develops a passion for the topic he is learning. There is nothing worst than somebody who is bored while learning. Focusing on deeply understanding and on practical application is key to awaken a desire to continue learning. "If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't…

Be patient. Tutors cannot expect students to understand or get the question right the first time. It is important for tutors to understand where the student went wrong and to slowly and easily correct them by following the question. Once they grasped an understanding, tutors should give the student similar questions to practice so they are…

I think the most important thing is to help a student build confidence, not just get through a problem. If they believe they can’t do it, nothing else works. I had self doubt right before my HSC exams, so I truly know how important confidence is and how strongly it affects a person’s performance. Second is to teach them how to think through a…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not teach them how to answer a specific question but to ensure they understand the logic behind the answering methodology. Building a caring relationship in my opinion is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. It is the conducive learning environment that a tutor has to provide to enable the student to work to his/her maximum…

I believe a tutor can make all the difference to a student struggling with their studies. School teaching can often be mechanical and impersonal; an environment where some students find it difficult to learn. I know first hand that teaching in smaller groups or one-on-one works is much more effective at learning hard to grasp concepts. The impact…

A tutor should be able to resonate and communicate well with a student firstly. Another important factor is to keep patience and listen to what the students have to say and not rush them into understanding different concepts. We are very happy with Amanat. My son enjoys his sessions with him and that is a huge indicator for me as a parent. Amanat is so lovely and approachable with any questions I have and I like his commitment to my sons learning even though he is busy himself, nothing is ever an issue. I would recommend your business to other people and especially Amanat.

Inside Darling PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex focused on multiplication facts for the 2 and 3 times tables and practised telling time using an analogue clock.

In Year 9, Mia worked on algebraic techniques such as proving for x and completing the square, alongside general revision of key algebra skills.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student James explored logarithms and exponentials by working through targeted practice questions to build confidence with these advanced concepts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, hesitation with back titration and conductivity questions meant responses lacked clarity; as one tutor observed, "she was unable to phrase this concept succinctly and with clarity."

During a Year 8 algebra session, skipping the setup steps in equations led to confusion when isolating variables.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 student's heavy reliance on finger counting for addition delayed her progress with numbers above ten.

In a Year 6 writing task, strong ideas were held back by incomplete inclusion of research—answers existed verbally but weren't written down. Each moment reflected the struggle to transfer thought into clear, independent written work.

Recent Achievements

One Darling Point tutor noticed a high school student who had struggled with pH calculations now tackling multi-step chemistry problems and clearly explaining her approach, something she was hesitant to do before.

Another secondary student who used to rush through subtraction has started pausing to check her work and even created her own step-by-step method for column subtraction, showing real ownership of the process.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who previously relied heavily on finger counting has begun adding numbers mentally up to 20 and recently completed a full worksheet without needing physical aids.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Double Bay Public School.
