I believe that a good tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, encourage their own thinking, and provide guidance tailored to each student's needs. Ultimately, the goal is not just to improve grades but to help students become more confident and grow as an individual too. I usually take the time…

I have a very interactive way of teaching and kids enjoy when you teach while interacting and playing with them. I don’t teach as a typical traditional teacher which gets very boring at times. I have a lot of patience while teaching kids so it’s easier to communicate with them. It’s my passion to teach kids and they have more energy to…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is understand that every student learns differently. Some need visual explanations, others prefer step-by-step guidance, and some just need more encouragement. A good tutor should adapt their approach based on how the student learns and what they struggle with. It’s also key to create a space where…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build confidence. This lets the student feel brave enough to learn harder topics and challenge themselves. It’s so important that they feel comfortable getting questions wrong so they can learn how to answer them next time. I believe I am friendly and patient so the student feels comfortable…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to identify their individual needs and motivate them to not be afraid of asking questions. From my past tutoring experiences, I can confidently say that I am patient with students. I'm also creative which helps me explain concepts to students in multiple ways for them to understand. I am…

Tutors should bring clarity over complex concepts through teaching strategies adjusted to particular needs and make learning approachable and enjoyable besides giving feedback and emotional support to help students in building…

I think the most important thing we can do for students is build their curiosity and genuine interest in a subject. When students are interested in what they’re learning, they become more willing to ask questions, experiment, and challenge themselves rather than simply trying to get the right answer. Over time, I think that curiosity builds the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and persistent. Everyone learns at their own pace, and we must allow individuals the freedom to learn at their own speed. At the same time, we need to remain persistent and support the student through difficulties. I believe my strengths lie in my ability to view things from a…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be timely in replying as if your student is struggling on a topic and say reaching out for an additional session there is no point or benefit to having the session after that content is already assessed. However this is only one of the important things a tutor can do for a student…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student genuinely understand the subject rather than simply giving them answers. It is also important to be patient,…

To be understanding of the needs of a student is important as a tutor. The tutor should master the areas that they wish to teach their student beforehand. The tutor should monitor the performance of the student weekly and ensure that what he/she teaches does not clash with the way the student is taught at their school. Tutoring should go along the…

As a tutor, the most important thing I can do is to help the student figure out where their confusion is, is it just the question being asked or the logic of how to interpret this question. They may confuse about the original theory they've learned because they can't link it to real life to apply or they didn't see it clearly in the first place,…

Prepare well for the lesson. Have a good lesson plan. Lay out the lesson in order for it to be easy for the student to grasp perfectly. And helping the student build good study practices. Helping students work on their study ethics is very important to me, as well as making sure that they understand the fundamentals of the subject instead of…

Inside EveleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Olivia practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages and also worked on finding percentages of quantities in everyday contexts.

Year 8 student Mason focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as solving quadratic equations using the completing the square method.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Aisha tackled trigonometric identities and began introductory differentiation, reinforcing both with targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student showed a tendency to "jump to what he thinks is the answer—often a guess if he doesn't follow a logical process," especially in pattern and word problems.

In Year 7, one learner often avoided writing working out on paper, preferring mental calculation, which led to repeated basic errors ("Writing his working out on paper rather than doing it all in his head").

At senior level, hesitation with new types of questions surfaced: as noted in Year 11, "she hesitates to try and asks me how to do it rather than try it herself first." This can leave students feeling uncertain when independent problem-solving is required.

Recent Achievements

One Eveleigh tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after struggling to complete differentiation problems independently, managed to work through tricky questions on her own and even explained new methods back to the tutor.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student—who used to rush through area and perimeter questions without checking—has started pausing to think through each step before answering, leading to more accurate solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student has begun asking for help when stuck rather than guessing quietly, showing much more openness during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Central Sydney Intensive English High School.
