I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. As a tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. I will try to become one of them though I'm still yet to gain formal experience of tutoring In addition,…

What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a tutor can do. No students are same and have same level of intelligence and this should be considered by the teacher. As a tutor, my biggest strength is that i genuinely love teaching not just solving problems, but explaining deeply…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is getting them to enjoy the subject that they do. An enjoyment of the subject will allow the student to gain satisfaction from solving problems, and advancing in their learning which will cause the most improvement. As a tutor, it is important to be communicative with the students where ideas and thought process can be discussed so that learning can be improved. To make the student comfortable enough. For example, when the tutor has explained something multiple times but the student still couldn’t grasp the topic, the student is still free to ask the teacher about the topic again. Inside HomebushTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Saner focused on **Business Studies topics including Operations, Marketing influences, and the Finance syllabus points**, as well as tackling exam-style questions; in Maths, recent lessons covered Networking, Critical Path Analysis, and **revising errors from her last assessment**.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Isaac worked through **essay writing techniques using Deltora Quest as a base text** and explored literary devices such as sensory imagery and personification in both reading and creative writing.

For Year 6, lessons with Mia addressed **analysis of advertisements for class assessment** and understanding different types of humour through targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student struggled with consistent revision in Business Studies, often neglecting to create summary notes or complete practice papers; as one tutor observed, "more focus on maths would be ideal," but daily practice was repeatedly missed.

In English for Year 9, reliance on leading questions meant written analysis remained shallow and dependent—prompts were needed even for basic context explanations.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student left lesson tasks unfinished due to overwhelm from other assignments, pushing English work to the last minute. This led to rushed drafts and missed opportunities for feedback before assessment deadlines arrived.

Recent Achievements

A Homebush tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with critical path analysis now tackling complex business networks independently and even revising content more thoroughly between sessions.

Another high school student, after hesitating to ask for help, is now clearly identifying which maths sections he finds tricky and actively seeks guidance during tutoring.

In Year 5 English, one student who used to give very brief answers is now regularly stating their own opinions about texts and can explain how characters feel in stories.

Last week, that same student wrote out examples of personification without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Strathfield Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like The McDonald College.
