I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student to be providing the student with the toolbox to be able to solve problems effectively in the chosen subject. In addition, a tutor can provide the student with confidence and belief in oneself, which helps the student academically, and in general. My strengths as a tutor include very…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build a student's confidence and tailor their approach to each individual. Every student learns differently, so being patient and adjusting your teaching style to suit their needs makes a real difference in how much they improve. It's also important to focus not just on content knowledge, but…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is be adaptable to the student's working style as this will enable them to learn mathematical concepts in a way which specifically and effectively works for them. I also believe that believing in the student is very important. I found that when I struggled in year 11 and 12 with certain…

I think adapting to students learning style is vital to allow for the most growth in their education. Tutors are exceptionally valuable as the one on one or small class dynamics allow for the specific needs of a student to be catered for, giving their learning attention in a way that can be difficult to access within the schooling system alone.…

Help them to improve their confidence and understanding in subjects and give them the tools to be able to work, study and perform well in exams and assignments on thier own in the future I think that I am good with kids, especially young ones and getting them to work and improve even when they are not confident or prepared to. I also think that…

I believe that a tutor's influence not only encompasses teaching a student but they could be a role model for the student to look up to. I am adaptable, patient and willing to listen. These enables me to work well with a team and allow me to build good relationships with my colleagues and students. I am also willing to improve my proficiency on…

Demonstrate passion and curiosity. Throughout my schooling career I always found myself excelling whenever my teacher showed passion that I would resonate with and mirror. Showing curiosity acts as a template for how a student should approach learning, as the most knowledgeable people always start as the most curious. Patience and creativity. For…

I believe the most important thing a tutor may do is to grow the student's confidence. Letting them know they can do better than what they are doing, discovering their maximum potential. I think one of my biggest strengths as a tutor is that I’m patient. I understand that everyone learns at a different pace, and I don’t get frustrated if…

I believe a tutor can make all the difference to a student struggling with their studies. School teaching can often be mechanical and impersonal; an environment where some students find it difficult to learn. I know first hand that teaching in smaller groups or one-on-one works is much more effective at learning hard to grasp concepts. The impact…

As someone who has received tutoring before I know the difference a good tutor can make to help bridge the gap between your current self and where you want to be. The most important thing a teacher can teach a student is something about how they learn best, like what techniques, environements, etc. they need to learn effectively. This is not only a skill that will help them any time they need to learn something in the future, but also something that will help them enjoy the process. I think I have excellent…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for the student is to, engage with them to make the lessons fun yet still learning valuable content along the way. I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be fully committed to them while fully giving the student their attention while teaching. I think the biggest thing a tutor can do for a student is provide confidence. With confidence a student can approach a subject with understanding but also take risks and experiment and question the subject which leads to a better understanding and ultimately a passion for the topic. I share a passion for learning and try to pass that along to…

Working with students can be a challenge, especially if we're meeting to help them bring up low grades. One thing I do when I meet the student for the very first time is to ask them questions about their interests, like sports, school subjects, music and movies. In the math problems that I create, I incorporate references to these interests. It…

Help them achieve their goals. It isn't about getting the highest marks, it's about improving and feeling good about going into tests and exams and feeling confident you know the material. Being able to complete tests to the best of your ability is always the main goal. Slow and detailed explanations of the topic. I'm really good at going in depth…

To be a good tutor, I feel like you need to be personally connected with your students. Each student has their own unique situation whether it be family or academic and as a tutor, you must be able to work with what your students have. Inside KyeemaghTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Sasha focused on algebra questions and consolidating her understanding of positive and negative integers through targeted practice.

Year 9 sessions with Liam addressed trigonometric ratios, including basic applications of sine, cosine, and tangent, as well as graphing these functions.

For Year 11 student Emily, recent lessons explored quadratic equations—covering both factorising techniques and use of the quadratic formula—plus applied skills to real-world problem scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student did not attend the scheduled online lesson despite reminders; as noted, "sent her texts and emails before the class, which she has not replied." This gap disrupts progress on planned tutorials.

Meanwhile, in Year 9 Algebra, incomplete homework was an issue: "must take his homework seriously, otherwise he will suffer the consequences of poor results."

A Year 8 student erased working out repeatedly rather than showing full steps—"erases work with an eraser instead of keeping working out"—making it harder to pinpoint misunderstandings during problem-solving.

Missed feedback and hidden errors slow improvement in both cases.

Recent Achievements

One Kyeemagh tutoring session saw a Year 10 student independently catch a calculation error before the tutor did, showing real engagement rather than just following along—he used to be more passive with problem-solving.

In another high school example, a student who had previously skipped writing down her maths working now consistently records every step and talks through her reasoning out loud.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner tackled mixed numerals for the first time and was eager to attempt challenging questions on her own, asking for extra practice worksheets without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brighton-Le-Sands Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kyeemagh Public School.
