I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to understand their lifestyle and work according to that so that there is minimal pressure and more learning for them. In order to do that, it’s better to get to know the child and adjust according to what they prefer and how they want to be treated and/or taught. I think…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empathise. It’s essential to understand how a student feels—whether it’s about the content itself or the teaching style being used. A tutor who can step into a student’s shoes is better able to identify their struggles, adapt their approach, and create a supportive learning…

Overall, being there for a student which can greatly impact their learning, forming a bond that more or less they wouldn’t create with their teachers. Generally, having chemistry with the students is a big factor with how they absorb and understand the information they’re being taught I am quite persistent and would constantly look for ways to…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence, make learning clear and understandable, and encourage curiosity. Should listen to the student’s needs, adapt to their learning style, and help them see that challenges are just steps toward improvement. Making the student feel supported and capable is…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is show that the student can be independent in their thinking and be capable of approaching a question from different angles. I am very against rote learning mathematics as it is not useful to real life and will set them up for failure in university. Therefore my approach involves understanding the…

In my view , the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them and help them in gaining an inbuilt confidence in those subjects in which he is weak. In my perception, at first students should start to love their subject , then automatically they start to score well in that. I think I can deal with students according to their…

A tutor is an important role and a mentor. Students select tutors because they have the enthusiasm to learn and perhaps do not have the resources needed which a tutor can fill in. I am calm, patient and have an insight to give my best so that people can benefit from me. I want children to excel and do well beyond they can dream…

Any tutor should be able to show that they care about their students learning, and making sure the student knows that the tutor wants the best for them. Often, students may feel a lack of determination or care from their tutors or teachers which can cause a gap within the students learning. If a tutor shows that they care about the student and try…

Again, it is understanding and comprehending. Memorising is the second. I am bachelor of clinical science student and I have so much to memorise in anatomy. But even in anatomy, understanding is the first step. I think every thing has a whey they are. I think I need to teach them why they are learning. I focus on one thing "comprehension" I think…

Understanding that every student moves at their own pace is crucial as a tutor. It’s important that students are reminded that learning is a process, because it can be frustrating not understanding something on the first go. This is especially important for younger students, who are still adapting to regulating their workloads. I find that the…

From experience, I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is allowing the student to be able to set their own goals. As a tutor I should still push students to do the best they can, but I feel that students typically only do what they want to do unless they are academically competitive. I just want to be able to help…

The most important thing as a tutor is to make sure your student understands the subject and enjoy it. And does not get bored and lose interest. As a tutor we need to understand students weakness and try to work on the improvement of that weakness. I have strong command on the subject. I can explain the topic in a practical way and with more…

I find that offering consistent and reliable support is the most crucial thing a tutor can do, particularly to senior students. Knowing that learning and studying is a difficult and complex process, a tutor must be a mentor students can look to for guidance so that their goals are aligned. The most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a student is to inspire them and instil an appreciation for the subject they are teaching. Beyond just explaining different concepts and providing feedback, a tutor should make an effort to emphasize the value of the skills and knowledge they are teaching to the students. I think it's very…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and help them become independent, capable learners. A tutor can do many things for their students. They should be able to motivate, support, inspire and teach from the heart. In other words, they should be role models to their students; someone students look upto that inspires them to achieve their full potential. I think the most important thing would be to show students that education is fun, it should never be boring. A good teacher should be able to explain and teach in a fun and intuitive way. My key strengths would be my technical knowledge and being able to understand not each student is alike, not each student learns the same way. Therefore…

Inside Minto HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Leon focused on financial maths, including textbook problems on simple and compound interest, and reviewed homework questions.

For Year 11 Sanjli, lessons centred on functions—exploring domain, range, and function notation—alongside challenging surds and indices factorisation using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 12 Vasati sat a review exam covering rational numbers and operations with whole numbers to assess understanding before moving forward.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, a student repeatedly rushed through equation manipulation tasks without carefully reading each question, which led to misinterpretation of worded problems and missed key details—"he does not read the question in depth and rushes to conclusions," noted one tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student tackling trigonometry struggled to apply the correct formulas under timed conditions; confusion increased when encountering bearing questions that required careful breakdown of wording.

In Year 5 English, untidy handwriting and incomplete spelling practice meant errors were often overlooked during revision, making it harder for her to spot patterns or improve accuracy over time.

Recent Achievements

In Minto Heights, a Year 9 student who used to second-guess herself on tests completed an entire practice exam within the set time and even identified her own errors before being prompted.

Another high schooler made a shift from hesitating with worded maths questions to independently tackling tricky bearing problems and explaining her steps out loud.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students, who previously waited for help with unfamiliar words, now tries to sound them out herself and has started getting most spelling quiz answers right without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Al-Faisal College - Campbelltown.
