I feel that the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to act as a source of information throughout their time of studying. School can be, and often is, stressful, even if you love the subjects being taught and the teachers teaching them. Therefore, I think the role of a tutor hinges largely on offering support and passing on…

I believe that a tutor is also a mentor to their students. This comes from personal experience where I had THE BEST math tutor and life mentor in my high school years. Helping the student understand the concept clearly.Once a concept is taught and examples are explained,I firmly believe that it is duty of the tutor to make sure that the students solves/writes the problem/writing on their own.And proper follow ups of the mistakes made by the student is also another important one.Other than that, how to embrace…

The most important thing is always to have a safe learning environment as they this allows students to feel comfortable to ask questions. A tutor always wants their students to become confident and inspire lifelong learning however this isn't possible without fostering a space whether the tutor and student can communicate on a more personal level…

I think a tutor needs to be knowledgable in what they teach so they can properly help the students understand the content and help them learn. But other than this, I think a tutor should also be friendly, encouraging and supportive to help the student enjoy and stay positive throughout the lessons. I think that a positive mentality is very…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is improve the way in which they think about things. Whilst tutoring is catered to individual subjects, I believe a tutor can offer more than just skills in Maths or English - they can offer advice in general that can be applied to other academics and life as a whole. When a…

I strongly believe in individual behavioral and learning differences amongst students. As such, students have their own, sometimes unique, individual attributes which should be closely assessed / monitored by the tutor. My approach to math tuition consists of an individually tailored 3-stage plan: Identify, reform, and sustain. Any average math…

A good teacher can make a good difference in a student's life. A tutor can also give good guidance to the student, letting them aware of the good and bad things about life. A teacher not only teaches a subject to the student but also builds a certain part of the student's character. A teacher also builds a student's future, if a student is…

Build confidence and identify root causes. Many students struggle because of foundational gaps or misconceptions, not lack of ability. ESTU, Ringwood North

Inside Ringwood NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Anaka worked on simultaneous equations and completed a diagnostic set of Year 9 and 10 maths questions to identify strengths.

In Year 11, Kenton reviewed the theory of depreciation missed in class and applied it through targeted practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mohammad was tested on last year's Math, Physics, and Chemistry content before addressing specific gaps in each subject with focused revision.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics, he over-complicated some exam answers, slowing him down and often providing an incorrect answer. This tendency to expand on theory instead of targeting what the question asked led to lost marks, especially when curriculum changes altered expected response formats.

In Year 11 Chemistry, lack of confidence meant Sakura could not recall material during tests—despite knowing it beforehand.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 writing tasks, Melodie struggled to expand on her initial ideas after planning; as a tutor observed, "she needs to really focus on not just planning but then expanding on those ideas." This left her final pieces brief and underdeveloped.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ringwood North noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to ask questions in class, now actively seeks clarification on complex math problems and applies new study strategies like the Pomodoro method to stay organised.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to make frequent calculation errors during quantitative reasoning tasks managed to complete a full test significantly faster and with far fewer mistakes than before—demonstrating much better retention and exam technique.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner showed real independence by self-correcting her own spelling errors and expanding her writing without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
