I consider that the most important thing I could do for the student is to create a safe environment for them. That means ensuring that I don't do or say anything that will make them feel they are being judged, as this may hinder their willingness to engage comfortably. Creating a comfortable space where the student feels safe in making mistakes…

I think a tutor can bring out the inner talent of a student. Suppose a student who could not able to gain a good marks in exams or failing continuously, I will give that student mental support. I will give him or her motivation by telling that you can achieve anything in your life by doing hardworking. The most important thing is that a tutor can…

I think the most important thing is to encourage a student to be independent and learning how to solve their own problems. So, by not giving them the answers outright but ensuring that they are taught key methods that enable them to solve their own issue is very important especially in the long term. Having patience and attention to explain…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to keep the student engaged. Often students in tutoring are behind in work because they lose focus in a classroom or simply find it boring. Being able to hone a student's attention to the work will dramatically improve their chances of success. I can often work with different learning styles,…

Always tell them not to be scared to ask. I often realize students are uncomfortbale to ask when they need help. It is important to ask for help and not to be embarassed about it because developing and making it better is good rather than silent. I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. Tutor should look after their students and if they have any bad habit then it's tutor responsibility to guide them in right direction and also inform their parents. Tutor can make hard subject into…

I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

Inside RivertonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lara worked on graphing linear equations, finding gradients from tables and coordinates, and using the midpoint formula.

In Year 9, Ethan practised solving simultaneous equations by both substitution and elimination, as well as tackling worded problems that required forming and rearranging algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia focused on expanding and factorising quadratic equations, then used the quadratic formula to solve for unknowns in standard form.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly skipped writing out full algebraic steps when rearranging trigonometric ratios, leading to confusion between numerators and denominators—"I had to keep reminding her to write out the whole equation before she tried to solve."

In Year 9 statistics, another found it difficult to organise data in Excel, losing time hunting for functions rather than analysing results.

A Year 8 learner often left worded questions incomplete, misreading which triangle side was required, then hesitated to use provided formula sheets.

After setbacks with negative numbers in simultaneous equations (Year 11), calculator reliance increased and confidence dropped mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Riverton noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to attempt algebraic questions now starts each one independently, writing out every step before asking for feedback.

In a recent high school session, another student who struggled with interpreting linear graphs was able to accurately draw lines from equations and explain the meaning of slope and intercept without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student who used to guess at place value questions has begun talking through her reasoning out loud, using number tables confidently to find answers.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Riverton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Riverton Primary School.
