The most important thing is to be of assistance. Every student has the potential to achieve good marks and be great at something. We as tutors need to learn and understand students as individuals. We need to guide and assist them as best as possible so they can forge there own career path. We were also students at one point in our life and we also…

The most important role of a tutor is to be a reliable pillar of support and a trusted source of strength and knowledge. Students should feel comfortable asking questions, even if they think they might sound “silly,†without fear of judgment. Creating a safe and supportive environment is essential, as students can be hesitant to ask for help…

A tutor can make use of the two kinds of experience he/she has. Firstly as a current/former student himself, he can impart a deeper and thorough understanding of the subject keeping in mind the future academic curriculum and its practical applications. Secondly his experience as a tutor means a patient engagement with his student, where in the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not pressure students and understand that everyone learns differently. Not all students will get something right away, and what matters is being patient and staying with them through the process until they understand. I believe it is about making them feel supported instead of rushed, so they can…

It is very important that a tutor understands the strengths and weakness of a student and approach them accordingly. A personalised approach would be the best method to adopt and it is important to help the students become independent learners. A tutor should prepare the students to be life long learns with a never ending thirst for acquiring…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe and supportive space where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Support. Providing a great amount of support and motivation is crucial for a student’s education path. Without this, a lack of drive would occur which is detrimental to their learning, ultimately affecting their peers around them which acts like the domino effect. I have been to multiple coaching centres since Kindergarten and I have realised…

The most important thing I consider of a tutor to do for a student is to communicate in a way where the student is reassured that in a safe space, they feel motivated, confident and ease within their tutoring sessions. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to become their friend. Children are sometimes uncomfortable with teachers and are unable to fully explain where they struggle. However, if we are able to get them to open up we would be able to better assist them in improving their grades. A student who is comfortable in the…

In my view, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. This means going beyond simply helping them complete assignments and prepare for exams, and instead working with them to build a foundation of knowledge and skills that they can apply to future challenges. A good…

Inside Rooty HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Caleb revised fractions, decimals, and percentages, focusing on applying these concepts through homework tasks.

Year 8 student Agazio wrapped up a Geography assignment with emphasis on formatting and rephrasing, then moved on to structuring his English assessment using detailed examples.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student worked through solving algebraic linear equations and practiced simultaneous solving methods in line with current classroom topics.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student relied heavily on calculators and avoided showing working out—this made it difficult to spot and correct errors. As noted, "He needs to reduce dependance on calculators when asked to show working out."

In Year 9 English, another student struggled with motivation and rarely explained her thought process, which left gaps in understanding during essay planning.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner was urged to write answers more clearly after messy columns led to mistakes in times tables.

The challenge of not slowing down or re-reading questions in NAPLAN practice left avoidable confusion unresolved.

Recent Achievements

One Rooty Hill tutor noticed a real shift in Ricky, a high school student who previously hesitated to attempt questions—he now takes initiative to solve problems himself, even back-checking his work independently.

Zariyah, also in high school, showed new adaptability by quickly engaging with online learning and making the most of lessons after time off.

In Year 3, Caleb's attitude improved markedly; after a long break, he jumped straight back into tasks he'd found uncomfortable before and asked for extra practice.

Last week, Amayah integrated English study into maths session without missing a beat.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rooty Hill Public School.
