The most important thing an economics tutor can do is build a student confidence up in a subject so that they can perform to their greatest ability. They also need to provide resources and insight to help develop a students skills. I think my strengths are that I have clear communication which means I can get the lesson across clearly to a…

The power of being non-judgmental. A tutor must understand that every student has different learning capabilities and focus more on students that find it difficult to grasp concepts without belittling them. I believe I have two strengths as a tutor- 1. I do not follow the status quo/ set pattern of teaching. I like to mix things up so that my…

I think students would appreciate when tutors can find a suitable and effective style of elaborating problem-solving methods to them, and then further gain the ability to solve similar questions without additional help. I am very patient and enthusiastic about helping students figure out solutions to questions. I can also offer remote tutoring…

Provide the student with confidence in their own learning ability. Helping students find learning methods that work for THEM, which they can continue to use in the future is the most important thing, and also the most satisfying thing for me as tutor. I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do is make a student feel understood and supported, not judged. Learning can be really challenging, especially when you’re already dealing with pressure, self doubt, or even language barriers. In the end, what matters most is that a tutor helps a student find confidence in their own…

I believe the most important things an economics tutor can do are to build confidence, create clarity, and inspire motivation. A good tutor doesn’t just explain answers — they guide students to think critically and develop problem-solving skills. By being patient, encouraging, and consistent, tutors help students feel supported and capable. I…

Impart upon a student not knowledge per se, but rather a desire to expand their own knowledge through self-directed learning. Learning and education should be a lifelong process, not one that ends when an individual completes their primary vocational education. Learning makes us grow and develop and look at things in different ways, and the desire…

Amidst the competitive pressure of institutions on this generation's children, one of the vital things an economics tutor can do for a fellow student is to provide a safe space for them to be able to express themselves, i.e allowing them to ask questions and understand the weaknesses of their students. That way they will be enthusiastic to learn…

Finding the right method to educate a student. The way you present your working and explanation should always suit the students learning style. I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to listen and understand the student's learning style and being able to adapt accordingly. Students often learn at a different pace from each other and a tutor should understand when to slow down, when to speed up, or when to adjust the teaching style to suit the student's…

I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is focus on that student, listen to what they want and then create a personalised lesson just for them. The major difference between a class and a tutor is how the tutor is able to focus on the one student, and maximising this chance and truly listening to the student and…

Xinchi has just been over again this evening and I would like to say what a lovely young man he is. He is very thorough, knows what he is teaching, and has a lovely manner. He has already built a nice rapport with Cameron. We are keen to see Cameron's progress under Xinchi's guidance.

Inside ArdrossTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack worked on calculating area, length, and perimeter in measurement tasks and practiced geometric shapes and angles using diagrams.

In Year 8, Ava tackled linear equations and began exploring parabolas, followed by an investigation into geometric relationships in curves.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student focused on applying indices rules through BIMDAS operations and completed basic data analysis for an assignment using real-life scenarios.

Recent Challenges

Homework discipline was a challenge for one Year 9 student, as noted: "didn't do homework," which meant test preparation was incomplete—impacting recall of mean, median, and range.

In Year 7, confusion about decimal conversion led to hesitation during multi-step problems; "still unsure about decimals as well as making a few silly mistakes."

For a Year 11 learner, time management issues appeared in assignment work—longer tasks were left unfinished.

Organization and equation memory also slipped in senior years: one note recorded "needs work on remembering equations," especially under test pressure, leaving key steps missing from final answers.

Recent Achievements

One Ardross tutor noticed a big shift with Jack in Year 9—after weeks of hesitating on multi-step worded problems, he now breaks them down and solves them independently, catching his own mistakes as he works.

In Year 11 maths, Kara had struggled to remember the indice laws but can now explain and apply them correctly across different problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently started choosing multiplication games over other activities, asking for harder times tables after initially avoiding them altogether. Last week she finished all her multiplication card challenges without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Civic Square Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Pleasant Primary School.
