the most important thing for a tutor is to be able to listen to their students to truly understand their wants and needs, in order to help them achieve their goals the best way they can. I am able to adapt to different learning styles, teaching the students in the manner that appears best to them. I am good at listening to the students to fully…

The most important things is to always be there to help your student even if sometimes you don't know the answer to everything. You should understand that the students look up to you for help and be ready to help them whenever required. You should be ready to listen to any problem they might have and understand that each student is different and…

Make sure the student is calm and doesn't panic when confronted woith a problem and show them how to break down the steps to solve the problem bit by bit. I try to get the student to do their own work to ensure they know what to do. Listening to me, watching and asking questions at first but then to do it themselves to make sure they can do…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to them. Listening to them and understanding their point of view when something seems difficult for them, even when it isn't really from my perspective. Then combatting this problem by exploring different ways to present a difficult concept. I do this using analogies and using simple…

A tutor can make the complicated things easier. Also, can make a proper timetable and show a way how to study strategically without getting bored or stressed I can easily amalgamate with my student as a friend and I think that's my most powerful side as a tutor. This is because they don't hesitate to tell me their problems and that's how I get to…

The most important things I can do for a student are to support their individual learning journey and to empower them to believe in their own abilities. This means more than just helping them understand content—it involves creating a space where they feel heard, valued, and encouraged to ask questions without fear of judgment. I strive to equip…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be patient and adapt to their learning style. Not everyone learns the same way, with the same words or at the same time. It is of utmost importance to showcase your belief in them and empower them to enjoy what they are studying and not just do it for the sake of school but do it for…

Provide the student with confidence in their own learning ability. Helping students find learning methods that work for THEM, which they can continue to use in the future is the most important thing, and also the most satisfying thing for me as tutor. I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

The first thing would be to establish a plan of goals and expectations and help the student identify their role in this plan. Once a tutor has an idea of the expectation of the parents/school/ students then only can progress take shape, and this might have many forms and variations as to how this is executed as the student grows or stalls. So,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build confidence while teaching skills. Of course understanding the material matters, but confidence is what allows students to keep going on their own. A tutor shouldn't just give answers, they should guide the student to think through problems independently. I also think consistency and…

active communication will enable the tutor to understand the student's issues, strengths, weaknesses, and effectively plan the lessons for student's need. In addition to that, a clear and simplified explanation of subjects will not only enable understanding of the topic, but also could develop an interest of the subject in the student. Once the…

Patience is first and foremost when you're with a student. It is vastly important that you should respect the pace at which the student learns and works at, to never pressure or rush the student, to challenge them without making them feel small or inadequate. We all learn in different ways and at different speeds - none of which are better or…

First, I think a tutor should have good subject and curriculum knowledge so that they may be able to provide as much information as they can towards the kids. I think communication skills is another important thing a tutor must have (the way they explain the topics so that it is easy for the students to understand). Finally a tutor must be patient…

Building a strong self-esteem is the most important thing as no student should feel incapable of achieving high scores or have anxiety towards school. Inside BatemanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Savannah focused on understanding how fractions and decimals interact with multiplication and division, as well as reviewing her recent NAPLAN practice test from school.

In Year 8, Charlie worked through homework problems on fractions, percentages, and decimals, and also tackled negative numbers alongside a quick review of time calculations.

For Year 10, Matteo concentrated on linear lines with simultaneous equations, identifying areas he found challenging for targeted support during the session.

Recent Challenges

During recent Year 9 Maths sessions, Savannah has not been using revision materials given and needs to improve on her time management so she doesn't feel rushed before due dates.

This showed up when preparing for assessment tasks—uncertainty about which topics to focus on led to last-minute study.

In Year 11, one student's test performance was limited by time management: "time management in exams" was flagged as an area needing attention, with questions left unfinished.

A Year 7 student became frustrated and avoided completing NAPLAN practice tests; feeling overwhelmed by balancing multiple subjects contributed to this pattern.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bateman noticed Savannah, a Year 7 student, recently stopped relying on her multiplication chart and now works through problems independently—just last week, she faced a full page of questions that initially felt overwhelming but finished them quickly with only minor errors after a bit of encouragement.

In Year 10, Matteo moved from needing step-by-step guidance to tackling linear equations solo using simultaneous methods without help; he also started suggesting how much homework would be manageable for him.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student showed new initiative by explaining where she went wrong in her last exam and what strategies she'll use to fix those areas next time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bull Creek Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Corpus Christi College.
