Doing everything possible to get the true picture of the subject matter to the understanding of the student. All student do not have equal strength(mentally or physically).hence, as a tutor it is important to assess the strength of your student before engaging the student in a difficult or a less difficult task. this will help them to stay on…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help students gain clarity in the concepts they don't understand well from school. And practice is key. And in math I think it's important as a tutor to make math fun for students, and help them understand formulas and equations in a fun, comprehensive and easy way rather than just to memorize…

I think the most important thing is giving students learning and study strategies which they can apply across different subjects and learning areas. I believe this is the most useful information you can teach a student as this knowledge is what will allow them to become an independent learner, improve their academic marks across the board, and…

The first thing would be to establish a plan of goals and expectations and help the student identify their role in this plan. Once a tutor has an idea of the expectation of the parents/school/ students then only can progress take shape, and this might have many forms and variations as to how this is executed as the student grows or stalls. So,…

To give the student confidence and show them that the subject is not beyond their understandings. Prove that It's not difficult but needs to be approached correctly. Almost all students have more than enough talent to do their study, the most import thing in tutoring is to help them to uncover that (sometimes) hidden talent. In addition to my…

Helping each student be the best learner that they can be; independent learning is something that all successful students must be able to do. My philosophy is that if you want something, you can achieve it, as long as you dedicate the time and effort into it, and I will make sure that my students have this same mindset. I aim to make studying and…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student having the ability to take pressure off the students. Having only graduated from school last year, going to tutoring for the subjects I had trouble in, took some of the pressures of Year 12 off of my shoulders as I had the reassurance that I could go to my tutors with concepts I had trouble…

The most important thing is to teach students how to think and solve problems independently, while also giving them confidence and structure. A good tutor also creates a supportive environment where students feel comfortable, respected, and motivated…

I think that it's really important to be a good listener so that you can use feedback from students to improve your teaching. Not everyone learns in the same way so it's really important to work with each student to find the learning tehniques that work best for them. It's also important to recognise that each student could prefer different…

I think one of the most important things about tutoring is to help students not only understand what they need to do, but also why they need to do it, alongside techniques to perform well in assessments. Students often seek tutoring not just because they don't understand a subject, but because they lack confidence and love for learning that subject. The most important thing a tutor can try to do is to help that student find the self-belief that they are capable of mastering anything they put their mind to. My main strength as a tutor is my ability…

Helping a student visualize the portions they learn would be the best thing a tutor can do for a student. Local Reviews

Angela has been tutoring our daughter for several weeks now and we think she is amazing. We have seen a huge improvement in our daughters math work. Angela puts a lot of thought and effort into her lesson planning eg. bringing worksheets, a white board, worksheets and visuals to make things easier for our daughter to learn. Angela also has a very gentle, patient and friendly manner which is also very important to us. We are so happy with Angela and highly recommend her.
Debbie, Attadale

Inside AttadaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Charlotte focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as tackling measurement conversions such as millimetres to kilometres.

In Year 8, Olivia worked through area and circumference of circles using formulae, alongside practice with surface area and volume for composite shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ben reviewed indices rules and prime factorisation to determine if a fraction would become a recurring or terminating decimal.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when faced with multi-step fraction and percentage problems, hesitated to show her working—leading to confusion about which operation to use next. As a tutor noted, "she sometimes slips up with applying the correct operation (+, –, ×, ÷) to a line of working."

In Year 10 algebra lessons, another student avoided writing steps for rearranging equations; this slowed progress as small sign errors went unnoticed until checking answers at the end.

Meanwhile, missed sessions without notice (noted in Years 6 and 9) meant gaps in revision and lost opportunities for targeted feedback before upcoming tests.

Recent Achievements

One Attadale tutor noticed Poppy, a high school student, taking real initiative with algebra—she's now more comfortable rearranging equations and is starting to solve for x with less prompting than before.

Chloe, also in high school, has become much quicker at converting fractions to equivalent forms when adding or subtracting, something she used to hesitate over.

Meanwhile, Riva in primary school was excited to show off her mastery of the grid strategy for double- and triple-digit multiplication; this time, she applied it independently across several problems without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as AH Bracks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Attadale Primary School.
