The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that boosts the student’s confidence and motivation. A tutor should not only help the student understand the subject matter but also inspire critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Tailoring the teaching approach to meet each…

One of the most important things would be the environment the tutor and student are in. The more comfortable but slightly stressed-out the students are, the more productive the tutoring session would be. Another essential aspect of tutoring would be the ability for the tutor to deeply understand the concept themselves in order for them to simplify…

It is also important for tutors to be good listeners, encourage and motivate their students while maintaining professional boundaries. My strengths as a tutor include explaining concepts…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teach them how to approach learning in a way that is self sufficient. Understanding content is important for the time, but ultimately, a tutor should leave the student with the skills to know how to understand content when the tutor is no longer there. I am patient, persistent and…

Firstly, the most important factor for a tutor is her/her knowledge in the field he/she is tutoring. I am proud that I have always tried so hard to learn as much as possible and got highest marks during my studies. Secondly, it is really important to know how to behave and how to transfer knowledge to a student. I am glad that I know how this…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is actually pay attention to how a student is thinking, not just if they're getting the answer right or wrong. A lot of the time you can tell where the misunderstanding is just by the way they’re approaching a question. So being able to pick that up and respond in the moment is really…

Exposing students to a wide variety of questions ranging from easy-hard as well as hsc style questions will allow students to benefit most from lessons. A student can also be exposed to repetition via theory questions as it will allow them to understand the fundamentals in the long term. Most importantly tutors need be actively engaging with…

Any tutor, mentor, educator, or teacher all have something different to offer their students: but the goal is the same and it should be this: to help empower those who can't empower themselves in order to bring forth the best version of that individual into the world. It is through education, knowledge and the reciprocation of knowledge that…

Be patient with them and encourage them to do their best. Consistency is key and results don't just appear overnight, trust the process and at the end all anyone can ask of you is to do your best. Another big thing is to always be honest with them, whether that means admitting that you don't know something (but can find out for them) or letting…

I believe that a tutor should be there for a student, to support and answer questions as a means of enriching their understanding. They should also be flexible to a student’s needs, such as creating plans around their current studies or providing extra materials to further their knowledge. I am flexible and adaptable, focusing on the student’s…

I had a tutor in high school for my VCE studies. I learned that a tutor must be a supportive figure that guides their student with compassion and patience. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to ask them for constant feedback/questions. Some students are hesitant to ask questions when they are confused, which can easily lead to them not understanding content. Hence, it is important as a tutor to actively make sure that your student actually understands what you are teaching. As a…

Inside Bankstown AerodromeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Daniel reviewed domain and range problems, practiced algebra proofs, and tackled permutation and combination questions using the nPr rule.

Another Year 11 student, Emily, worked through trigonometry by learning SOH CAH TOA alongside exact value tables, and applied these skills to solve angle sum problems with triangle diagrams.

For a Year 3 student named Mia, lessons focused on telling time with analogue clocks and interpreting phrases like 'quarter past' or 'half past', as well as reinforcing subtraction of three-digit numbers.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, messy working and unclear formatting led to confusion in algebra and graphing tasks—one tutor remarked, "Setting out his work!! Must align equal signs—work vertically, not horizontally."

In a senior Year 11 lesson, skipping steps during trigonometry proofs meant key logic was lost, resulting in incorrect answers.

A Year 7 student struggled with time management on assessments; illegible solutions made it hard for markers to award full marks.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 maths, over-reliance on finger counting slowed progress with harder multiplication problems and undermined confidence when worded questions appeared unexpectedly.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bankstown Aerodrome noticed one Year 11 student, Sharla, who previously needed regular prompting, now tackling new algebra content independently and applying factorisation skills to harder questions right after a single demonstration.

In another session, a high schooler who struggled with graph transformations earlier managed nearly 100% on a recent test by explaining transformation steps clearly without assistance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was hesitant about decimals at first is now adding decimal numbers confidently and reading aloud with far fewer pauses. She finished the lesson by reading the next passage out loud with improved fluency.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Georges Hall Public School.
