How much tutoring does your child need?

Looking for the HSC maths formula sheet? NESA calls these files reference sheets. It publishes one for Mathematics Standard 1 and 2, and another for Mathematics Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2. Choose the file that matches your course, then use that exact sheet whenever you practise exam questions.

Official NESA downloads

Which students and exams does this resource apply to?

The two downloads below are the current reference sheets linked by NESA for the named course groups. If you take Standard 1 or 2, use the Standard sheet. If you take Advanced or either Extension course, use the combined Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2 sheet. If your school tells you that you are studying a newly implemented syllabus, confirm the supplied material on NESA before relying on an older saved copy.

What is included?

Both sheets collect formulas and relationships that may be needed across their course group, but the scope is different. The Standard sheet supports the content shared by Standard 1 and 2. The Advanced and Extension sheet includes material needed across the higher-level courses. Neither file tells you which formula belongs to a question or replaces algebraic fluency.

How to use the HSC Maths reference sheets

Use the correct course sheet from the start of revision, including during untimed work. Before looking at it, decide whether the problem involves measurement, finance, probability, calculus or another area. Then use the sheet to confirm a relationship and complete the solution with the required units and form.

The unfiltered bottom line

  • Use the sheet for your course. Standard and Advanced or Extension students receive different reference material, so check the title before practice.
  • Matching letters isn’t enough. Identify the mathematical situation and define each value before choosing a printed relationship.
  • The last line must answer the question. Include the requested form, units, accuracy and interpretation instead of stopping at calculator output.

Start with the correct course sheet

Save the relevant PDF with a clear file name and remove the other one from your desk. Practising with a broader or different sheet can hide what you are expected to recognise in your own examination.

Annotate questions, not the official sheet

During early practice, write beside each question which part of the reference sheet helped. Then repeat the question with a clean sheet. This builds recall without creating an annotated version that gives you help you will not have in the exam.

Practise multi-step selection

Many questions need a relationship from the sheet followed by algebra, interpretation or a second formula. Write the purpose of each step in a few words. You’ll catch methods that produce numbers without answering the question.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Using the Standard sheet for an Advanced or Extension paper, or the reverse.
  • Assuming every formula on the sheet is examinable in every listed course.
  • Substituting values before rearranging carefully and checking units.
  • Memorising page positions without understanding when a relationship applies.

Make the reference sheet routine: Use the correct clean sheet for every timed set. The useful skill isn’t memorising the document word for word. It is recognising the mathematics in the question, locating the right relationship quickly and completing the reasoning accurately.

What they say about our tutoring

Mitchell is happy with the new tutor, thank you. Sean is a good communicator which makes Mitchell feel more relaxed thanks again.
We are very happy with Sheetal. Timothy is making great progress and we are happy to continue. We will have Tim do his Navy test in a few weeks and if we need to do a bridging course we will ask Sheetal to tutor him with that as well.
Ezy Math Tutoring Philosophy

Our philosophy to teaching is based upon a firm belief that every child can succeed at maths or any other subject, given the proper encouragement, motivation and tools. We believe that a tutor’s …
