How much tutoring does your child need?

The Mathematical Methods formula book gives you a compact reference for functions, calculus, trigonometry and probability, but using it well is an active skill. Work with the official QCAA 2025 file below during practice. Before looking at the page, identify the mathematical structure in the question and predict the kind of relationship you need.

Which students and exams does this resource apply to?

QCAA associates this formula book with the Mathematical Methods 2025 syllabus for students completing the course in 2026 or beyond. If you are in an earlier completion cohort, follow the syllabus and external-assessment material given for that cohort. Check the live QCAA page for any later update rather than assuming a downloaded copy is permanent.

What is included?

The book includes common graph equations, logarithmic laws, differentiation and integration rules, trigonometric relationships, probability laws and distribution formulas. It supports both recognition and checking. It doesn’t replace exact algebra, knowledge of assumptions, or the ability to translate a worded problem into mathematics.

How to use the QCE Mathematical Methods formula book

Turn each search into a recognition check. Predict the section you need, state any domain or probability conditions, then use the book to confirm the relationship. Mark the first failure as recognition, algebra, technology or interpretation so the next question has a clear purpose.

The unfiltered bottom line

  • Predict before searching. Name the function, calculus operation or probability model first, then locate the supporting relationship.
  • Conditions still apply. Track domains, parameters and probability assumptions even when the relevant formula is printed.
  • Calculator output needs mathematical setup. Record the equation or method, keep full precision and give the final answer in the required form.

Predict before you search

Say whether the problem needs a model, derivative, integral, probability rule or distribution result. Then locate the relevant section. This makes the sheet a confirmation tool instead of a menu of unrelated symbols.

Track domains and parameters

Write the interval, parameter values and restrictions before solving. When technology is allowed, compare its output with those conditions. Reject solutions that don’t belong to the situation or the stated domain.

Practise exact and approximate answers

Use the formula book in questions that require exact working as well as questions that require a decimal. Check the requested form before the final line, and delay rounding until the calculation is complete.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Using a formula book that doesn’t match the completion cohort.
  • Ignoring the domain or assumptions behind a probability or calculus result.
  • Changing to decimals too early and losing accuracy or exact form.
  • Letting calculator output replace the mathematical setup required by the question.

After each Methods set: Use one clean current formula book throughout your exam preparation. Review mistakes by cause: choosing the wrong relationship, doing weak algebra, misusing technology or failing to interpret the answer. Each cause needs a different correction.

What they say about our tutoring

Mitchell is happy with the new tutor, thank you. Sean is a good communicator which makes Mitchell feel more relaxed thanks again.
We are very happy with Sheetal. Timothy is making great progress and we are happy to continue. We will have Tim do his Navy test in a few weeks and if we need to do a bridging course we will ask Sheetal to tutor him with that as well.
Ezy Math Tutoring Philosophy

Our philosophy to teaching is based upon a firm belief that every child can succeed at maths or any other subject, given the proper encouragement, motivation and tools. We believe that a tutor’s …
