How much tutoring does your child need?

VCE General Mathematics has separate formula sheets for written examination 1 and written examination 2. Download both official VCAA files below and match each one to the correct paper when you practise. Knowing which information is supplied helps you spend revision time on choosing and applying methods, not copying a long list of formulas.

Which students and exams does this resource apply to?

VCAA lists these sheets with its sample materials for the current VCE Mathematics study design, which applies to examinations from 2023. The files were updated in August 2024. Use the examination 1 sheet with examination 1 practice and the examination 2 sheet with examination 2 practice. Check VCAA again if your assessment falls under a later study design.

What is included?

The sheets bring together formulas relevant to the assessed areas of General Mathematics. The two examination resources aren’t interchangeable simply because they belong to the same subject. Look at both before your first timed paper and note what is supplied for each exam, then focus your memory work on concepts, procedures and interpretation.

How to use the VCE General Mathematics formula sheets

Practise with the sheet for the exact paper you are attempting. Link each formula to a question type, then check the setup, calculator process and practical interpretation separately. This is especially useful for finance, matrices, networks and data questions where a correct number may still be an incomplete response.

The unfiltered bottom line

  • Exam 1 and Exam 2 sheets differ. Use the file supplied for the paper you are practising instead of treating the pair as interchangeable.
  • A finance formula needs matching periods. Align the rate, payment and number of periods before entering values into a recurrence or calculator.
  • Applications require a conclusion. Explain what the network, matrix, data or financial result means in the situation given.

Keep the two papers separate

Label your saved files clearly and place the matching formula sheet beside each practice examination. This avoids learning a routine that depends on material not supplied in that paper.

Use formulas inside complete solutions

Write the relationship, substitute with units and show enough working to make your method clear. For networks, finance, matrices, data or measurement, finish by interpreting the result in the context of the question.

Rehearse calculator steps as well

A formula sheet can’t correct a wrong window, list, matrix or finance setting. When you review a mistake, record whether the problem was formula choice, calculator entry, rounding or interpretation. Repeat the whole process on a new question.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Opening the formula sheet for the wrong written examination.
  • Using a calculator result without showing or explaining the required method.
  • Rounding money, rates or measurements before the final step.
  • Forgetting that a formula doesn’t choose the relevant values from a graph or table.

For each General Mathematics paper: Use the official sheets from the start of exam practice, but keep your attention on decisions. A strong response shows why the method fits, carries it out accurately and makes sense of the answer in the setting given.

What they say about our tutoring

Mitchell is happy with the new tutor, thank you. Sean is a good communicator which makes Mitchell feel more relaxed thanks again.
We are very happy with Sheetal. Timothy is making great progress and we are happy to continue. We will have Tim do his Navy test in a few weeks and if we need to do a bridging course we will ask Sheetal to tutor him with that as well.
Ezy Math Tutoring Philosophy

Our philosophy to teaching is based upon a firm belief that every child can succeed at maths or any other subject, given the proper encouragement, motivation and tools. We believe that a tutor’s …
