The VCE Mathematical Methods formula sheets are useful only when you can connect a printed relationship to the function, probability model or calculus problem in front of you. VCAA provides a separate file with the sample material for each written examination. Use the matching official sheet below whenever you attempt that paper.

Which students and exams does this resource apply to?
VCAA places these formula sheets under the current VCE Mathematics study design and its examinations from 2023. Both files are dated August 2024 on the subject page. Examination conditions and supplied materials can change with a later study design, so students sitting a future course should confirm the current files with VCAA.
What is included?
The sheets collect relationships used across functions and graphs, algebra, calculus, probability and statistics. The presence of a formula doesn’t remove the need to recognise restrictions, choose a model, manipulate expressions or justify an answer. It also doesn’t tell you when technology is permitted, so keep the examination 1 and examination 2 conditions distinct.
How to use the VCE Mathematical Methods formula sheets
Use the formula sheet after identifying the function, calculus operation or probability model. Keep the domain and requested form visible while you work. Reviewing recognition, algebra and technology as separate stages makes a repeated Methods error much easier to fix.
The unfiltered bottom line
- Exam conditions matter. Use the correct Exam 1 or Exam 2 sheet and follow the technology conditions for that paper.
- A formula doesn’t remove domain restrictions. Check intervals, endpoints and rejected solutions before presenting the final result.
- Exact form and decimal form aren’t interchangeable. Read the requested form and delay rounding until the calculation is complete.
Name the mathematical object first
Before scanning the sheet, decide whether the question involves a derivative, an integral, a transformation, a probability distribution or another object. This prevents symbol matching from replacing mathematical reasoning.
Practise both technology-free and technology-active work
Use the examination 1 sheet while writing algebra and calculus by hand. With examination 2, practise setting up the mathematics before reaching for technology, then check the output against the domain and the question.
Check conditions after using a formula
A probability, logarithm or calculus relationship may require a particular domain or assumption. Add a final check for endpoints, valid probabilities, exact values, units and requested rounding. These details often separate a plausible answer from a complete one.
Common mistakes to watch for
- Using an examination 2 workflow when practising examination 1.
- Selecting a relationship from matching letters while ignoring its conditions.
- Accepting every calculator solution without checking the domain or interval.
- Giving a decimal when the question asks for an exact value, or the reverse.
When you mark a VCE Methods set: Regular use matters more than last-minute memorising. Work with a clean official sheet, explain your choice of method and keep a short record of errors in algebra, technology use and interpretation. Then retest each weakness on a different problem.
What they say about our tutoring
Mitchell is happy with the new tutor, thank you. Sean is a good communicator which makes Mitchell feel more relaxed thanks again.
We are very happy with Sheetal. Timothy is making great progress and we are happy to continue. We will have Tim do his Navy test in a few weeks and if we need to do a bridging course we will ask Sheetal to tutor him with that as well.
