Struggling academically while seeing others succeed can feel disheartening. It may seem as though "successful students" have it easy, as if solutions just pop into their head. Seeing the cycle of success cycling round and round for others can seem like natural talent. Geniuses do exist but most successful students are just normal people who have somehow learned how to succeed academically. Good news! Success leaves clues. These students tend to be prepared, to do their homework & regular revision....

Good news! Success leaves clues. These students tend to be prepared, to do their homework & regular revision. They focus on comprehension not on memorization. Most importantly they have growth mindset not a fixed mindset - failures are an opportunity for growth not proof of inadequacy.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
In the beginning, Tom jumped straight into the answer with little backtracking or writing down his method of getting to the answer which led him to a few mistakes when doing his work. I also bought him a notebook in order for him to practise questions on his own time and assign him homework when needed. It was important for me to instill an environment where it is okay to be wrong as long as he knows why and how to improve.
Chester's attitude is fantastic. It is clear that our sessions are not his favourite time of the week but, with his parents' help, we are able to get him excited about doing maths :) Chester's effort has been fantastic and once again, he seems to become more and more motivated each week. Chester is still quite young and so note taking, etc. has not been vital to his success so far. However, he does have a great attitude towards learning and always does his homework.
We still have to implement talking aloud as part of her learning strategies and transfer skills and avoiding rule dependency too. Needs to back check her answers every time to avoid preventable errors and write the full working out for when answering questions.

Even as a trained classroom teacher, I found Ezymath's tutoring resources particularly helpful in dealing with struggling students. I would recommend the basic program to any student or parent as it is designed to help tutors systematically address common learning problems, and provide structure for the student. In addition to dealing with content knowledge, the Ezymath program encourages students to develop positive study habits, effectively engage with their regular teachers, and build confidence in academic learning that will continue to yield results long beyond their time with a tutor.
Things are going really well with Adam. Josephine is very comfortable with him and enjoys their lessons. He has been very helpful, friendly and supportive. We're really pleased its working out so well.
We are extremely happy with Lakshya. He was just what Quinn needed and the 2 of them get along so well. We feel very lucky that we ended up with Lakshya.
