What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Watching my students enjoy the successes they achieve from their growth as students and individuals.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am very much a people person and can communicate well to others. This means I am able to explain concepts to my students with ease to help them understand and develop their ideas more clearly all while finding enjoyment in it.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there for them. If a tutor chooses only to communicate with a student within the designated hour-long session, there is a good chance questions will be forgotten before the next session and eventually left unanswered. This is why a clear and uninterrupted communication line is valuable for the student's academic and individualistic growth.

Nikolai showed a good knowledge of the context of the text. He went through a list of quotes, pointing out the most valuable for the body paragraphs he was structuring. He then presented a strong explanation for each quote and how it linked to the ideas of the paragraphs. He also showed a good ability to structure sentences that enhanced his position. He integrated quotes well into sentences, weaving evidence into explanations, adding supporting evidence to his strongest analysis.
There weren't really many issues found in the lesson. Some word-choice discussions were present, and ordering of explanation sentences were changed or advised, but overall, the lesson contained a strong analysis of the text and a formulated standpoint.

Nikolai showed substantial knowledge when completing the measurement worksheet. He successfully calculated the perimeter of composite shapes, the volume of cylinders, spheres, and a variety of 3D composite shapes. His quadrilateral and triangular area calculations were mostly correct, with a couple issues regarding more complex composite shapes. Surface area calculation of 3D shapes, especially cylinders, was successful. He has shown improvement in calculating all three measurement descriptions. His knowledge and understanding of statistical analysis has remained strong and he demonstrated this through successful calculations of five-number-summaries, measures of spread, and measures of central tendencies. His attempt at questions of interquartile range was successful. He understood the components of five-number-summaries and was able to compare the components on a parallel box-plot graph. Nikolai has shown good improvement in pacing himself when approaching questions. This shows an awareness of the detrimental impact rushing can have on performance.
Nikolai has shown lots of improvement in both the measurement and statistical analysis topics. There are only a couple minor issues impacting him. The first is a tendency to misinterpret the slant height of a triangle as the perpendicular height. However, he often corrects himself. The second minor issue occurs when facing questions that involve composite 3D shapes without distinctions between individual basic shapes - meaning a picture of a house rather than a rectangular prism and a triangular prism stuck together. He is able to complete these questions, but there is a level of guidance needed. Overall, he has made a noticeable improvement in his fundamental understanding of the topics, and has displayed the ability through application questions. He was sent home with two revision tests (one for either topic).

Nikolai showed a good understanding of the concept of the thesis statement, highlighting how it is used to present the argument or standpoint the writer is choosing from the get-go. He also noted how it is meant to outline the structure of the essay, particularly the subpoints to be talked about in body paragraphs. He was able to formulate a thesis statement to the question "Dicuss how Leah Purcell explores ideas of identity in her play," using the concept of external and internal identity as the main driver for his position. With a little guidance, Nikolai extended his thesis statement into a full introduction paragraph which turned out well-structured and well-written. The topic sentences were more of a challenge. However, Nikolai found success in elaboration after we delineated the significance of each subpoint.
Thesis statements and introduction paragraphs seem, to Nikolai, to be getting easier as we progress. Forming cohesive, relevant topic sentences related to the thesis statements are a newer concept which is why he somewhat struggled with its formulation. He had the three subpoints to be talked about but needed assistance in how to start off the sentence and weave in all the aspects needed to make the topic sentence into a mini thesis statement for the paragraph. Nikolai also had a bit of struggle with his handwriting which posed a small issue when he was reading back what he had written. He managed to get through it but the fluency of his reading was hindered by the untidiness of his handwriting. As an early remedy for it, he should slow down the speed at which he writes, even just slightly slower, to allow him time to completely form his letters and understand the sentence he is writing. Overall, Nikolai completed the essay structure and thesis statement task with success and a better understanding even though the latter end (e.g., topic sentences) posed a minor struggle.

Nikolai showed great use of equations in finding the volume of all shapes listed. He showed especial ability for cylinders, spheres and cones, utilising his knowledge of the area equations for circles to progress through correct and logical calculations. Nikolai was able to understand all levels of questions presented to him, finding no difficulty with the fundamental and intermediate problems, and, for majority of the time, correctly calculating volume in the complex worded questions. The composite shapes questions combined all concepts of volume and surface area studied, and Nikolai was able to complete the majority of it.
The issue of rushing through questions was still present (although lessened). However, the progress of unlearning the rushing tendency is looking promising. There were moments where he incorrectly structured equations, but they were during quite complex questions where the number of composite shapes started to confuse him. This is a place where the rushing tendency played a role in complicating the calculation process. Overall, there were few improvements calculation-wise so the main improvement needed is the rushing tendency. Nevertheless, it is noticeable that the impediment is gradually lessening.
