What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The most motivating part of the job, and the part I find the most joy in, is seeing my students progress and begin to find joy in math - that it's not as hard as it seems, as long as you have a firm grasp of the fundamentals. Another aspect of tutoring i enjoy is the sudden 'click' where (for the student) all the concepts they've been learning beign to fit together and they achieve a deeper understanding of, and greater confidence towards, the maths they've been learning.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One of the qualities that has really shone through in my own tutoring experience, and helped students become more comfortable with their own abilities, is my strong sense of empathy. I understand what it's like to be a student who lacks confidence in maths. At the same time, I also know how rewarding it feels to fainlly master a concept, and I aim to bring forth this feeling in all my students.
Another strength I have is that I often encourage independence. Rather than allowing students to rely on me all the time, I instead provide strategies to become an independent and effective learner.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I've found that one of the most important things for a tutor to keep in mind is pacing. Some students take longer to form a complete understanding of the concepts they are learning, and need a bit more guidance and time (and that's fine!). Others can blitz through content and tend to enjoy more challenging (extension-type) questions. It's imperative that the tutor can distinguish what kind of student that person is, and determine what pacing will allow them to develop the most effectively.
