What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I have not had prior tutoring experience, but from informally tutoring peers at school:
- Helping people unlock a new level of understanding in a topic/concept
- Expanding my own foundational understanding/knowledge
- Being able to talk about an interesting topic
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I would say I'm quite patient with all various learning stages and personalities. When I am teaching something, I am highly focused on ensuring that any questions about the topic at hand are answered thoroughly.
I've been told that I'm good at explaining things. That does also depend on my own understanding of the topic, but having a strong command of the English language definitely helps.
I also consider myself open-minded and responsive to feedback.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
1) Interest in the learning. Personally, I am a lot less likely to learn something with the mindset of "this is boring, let's just complete this lecture/class and be done with it" than more actively engaging.
2) Commitment. Namely, I believe that the tutor needs to care about (and pay attention to) the student's learning.
3) Positive mindset. Everyone has their own approach to teaching methods, but believing and having faith in every student's potential to learn is non-negotiable, in my opinion.

Sienna shows an intuition towards geometric concepts and is able to fill her own gaps in knowledge, just from low-level explanations. For example, the use of ratios in identifying similar triangles, and being able to identify hidden geometric shapes from a diagram.
Because she's missed a few classes, there are certain concepts required for her upcoming test tomorrow that she hasn't covered. It's very easy to be overwhelmed when faced with a test and limited time to prepare, but I'm very impressed with Sienna's commitment to doing whatever she can before it. Hopefully we can target the weaker areas once I get myself up to speed on the content covered, so we can go over the test once it comes back.
