What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The satisfaction of my students when they finally understand something after my teaching. As a person who just underwent high school maths myself, I resonate with the struggle in finding solutions to challenging mathematical problems. However, I feel a sense of accomplishment when I can arrive at a solution. This is the same feeling that I hope I can bring to my students.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My greatest strength is the ability to provoke critical thinking in my students. When I taught maths, I always asked my students to try to prove the mathematical formulae instead of taking them at face value. This allows students to understand the subject matter more comprehensively. Another method I use is linking similar mathematical concepts. For instance, I would explain differentiation by starting with an example concerning a rate of change, then drawing a relevant graph, and finally explaining the first principles. Thus, students can learn the same concept using different approaches.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most crucial part of tutoring is identifying and addressing a student's most significant weaknesses. Since teachers in school are focused on teaching the syllabus, they might not have time to cater to the needs of each individual student. Conversely, a tutor can spend time analysing someone's most common mistakes to find out which topics or question types they require practice on. This results in a more personalised education which traditional schools struggle to deliver.
