What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐
Watching students become more empowered from going out their comfort zone, and embrace mistakes motivates me as a tutor. Specifically, I found this with my grade 9 and 10 mathematics students, as they become more confident when encountering a problem they had not seen before or that seemed unfamiliar. This really helped in the bonding process with my students, the relationships made were stronger and more honest, which helped both the students progress and me as tutor.
My Strengths as Tutor ๐ช
I can effectively encourage and motivate students utilising strategies that work for them. Recognising that no student is the same, and there is no universal strategy that is most effective is imperative. I begin building my relationship with a student by listening and observing how they work, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. I then integrate techniques that highlight their strengths as well as work on their weaknesses. I utilised this with a mathematics student who responded well to interactive methods and visual learning strategies such as engaging quizzes and short videos.
Most important things I can do for a student ๐
I feel it is imperative for a tutor to be authentic with students. This builds honesty and trust between students and tutors, which ultimately results in a strong relationship. This co-operation lets both parties share feedback and progress with one another. This constant cycle of sharing feedback and evaluating progress allows for ongoing improvement. This builds a studentโs confidence and gives them effective lifelong learning strategies that can have a profound impact on a studentโs academic career.
