Finding the right method to educate a student. The way you present your working and explanation should always suit the students learning style. Only then can the student understand the concept in depth and apply their learning to a new question. As I was once a private tutee, I understand how the tutor should explain concepts in a clear and…

I think a good tutor is beyond just a subject matter expert and can be conducive to the development of the student as a whole. I feel the concept of tutoring is very personal and that a tutor should make a student feel comfortable enough to encourage him/her to view the tutor as a confidante. Furthermore, there's the added advantage of being able…

Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

A tutor needs to be able to work with the student. If the student struggles to understand a particular topic, or something that the tutor tries to explain, then the tutor needs to be able to recognise this and try to help the student. Another important thing for a tutor is that they don't make the student feel bad about themselves if they don't…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to create a positive and supportive learning environment, to clearly explain concepts, to assess the student's understanding, and to provide opportunities for the student to practice and apply what they have learned. A tutor should also be patient and understanding, and be able…

A tutor is more than just a tutor. The role of tutor is more like a coach or confidant. Students should feel free enough to discuss anything that came up during their day at school. Together both student and tutor can figure out how best to proceed. A coach in the sense that you help guide them towards habits that will help them become better…

In school, teachers provide a one-size-fits-all teaching method, which can impact the student's learning experience. A tutor has the ability to match their teaching style to the individual preferences of each student, allowing a deeper understanding of the material. Moreover, a tutor goes beyond the standard classroom support by offering…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to impart the skill of how to learn and understand. Math is all about understanding and when students start to understand Math, it becomes fun which is exactly what it is meant to be. I who have scored 95 out of 100 in math and 85 out of 100 in English in my High School can make Math fun for…

Inside PerthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Coen worked on calculating the area of composite figures, including sectors of circles and shapes with pieces removed, and practiced deriving and using formulas for circle areas.

In Year 10, Maya focused on matrix operations such as adding, subtracting, and scaling matrices, along with applying these to solve ticket price problems; she also tackled financial calculations involving commissions and profit/loss scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Yuri explored probability using Venn diagrams and two-way tables to express intersection, union, and conditional probabilities (P(A|B)), then applied these concepts to real-world word problems from his textbook.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student hesitated to ask her teacher for clarification outside class, leading to lingering confusion in setting up profit and stock word problems—"she was not shy about asking me, but is reticent with her teacher."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student struggled to organize class notes into clear sections, making it harder to quickly locate formulas during revision.

In Year 7 maths, one student's tendency to solve equations entirely in his head meant crucial steps were missed on paper; errors crept in that could have been caught by writing down the process. This left him reworking problems instead of moving forward.

Recent Achievements

One Perth tutor recently noticed Maya, a Year 11 student, making a significant shift—she now methodically checks her answers and annotates her note paper with new formulas during financial maths problems, rather than rushing through calculations as she did previously.

In Year 9, Samara has started to openly question unclear concepts in lessons about piecewise graphs, moving from silent confusion to asking for clarification until things click.

Meanwhile, Freyr in Year 3 picked up three-digit addition with regrouping much faster than before and now infers answers in reading comprehension by scanning questions first.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Perth Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St George's Anglican Grammar School. Alternatively lessons can be had at Ezy Math Tutoring Perth, 120 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000, (08) 6558 1218
