Chemistry can seem abstract, learning about elements and matter, how equilibrium occurs and how chemical systems react. No wonder students get discouraged.
All it takes for a student to go from a mild distaste for chemistry to understanding what is scribbled in the textbook is someone to point out what to avoid and where to put in that extra hour of revision. It's like with any problem situation in schooling and even in their personal life, students need to know about using effective strategies. Then all you need is persistence, staying on task until you reach your goal.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Much more confident in exploring problems and admitting not understanding a concept. This ability to self-identify areas of difficulty will allow for studying areas important to learn which will be a huge advantage in the later years of high school.
Richard is very often daydreaming and unfocused, but he attempts all of his homework I set him and maintains the same level of effort throughout our one hour lessons. His workbook habits could also be improved, as they are poorly labelled and never dated. This will be a good habit to get into next year.
Need to read through questions more carefully and try to understand what the question is really asking you to do so that specific and correct formulas could be chosen. Difficult to find out the gradient with equations which causes struggle in finding parallel equations or lines in a coordinate system. Need to memorize the correct form of the mid-point formula. Difficulties in choosing the correct formula to solve and understand trigonometry questions.
